I am looking to buy a 750$ Gaming PC.  Including a monitor preferably.  Thank you to any and all suggestions

1. Budget & Location

You may have listed a heap of parts that all add up to your preferred budget but it is easier if you just list the total amount you'd like to spend and the currency as well as if you'd consider going above that budget for more performance. We need the location as well because $US are different to $AUD and $CAD ect.

2. Aim

What is the system going to be used for? Web browsing, 3D work? Different systems need different levels of performance - a computer based for web browsing and office use won't handle heavy graphic design and video editing and a proper video editing system isn't good for gaming. If your aim is for gaming, please list what sort of gaming. In the same way that different usage types need different systems, you'll need a lot more power to run Far Cry 3 or Crysis 2 than you would Minecraft.

3. Monitors

How many monitors do you plan on running? Do you plan on moving to more monitors in the future? What resolution are they at too?

4. Peripherals

Do you also need to purchase peripherals such as keyboards and mice as well as monitors ect. Also please tell us if you'll need an OS such as Windows.

5. Why are you upgrading?

We ask this because you may see upgrading as the only path to solve an issue but things such as driver updates, reconfiguration or cleaning can boost performance without spending a cent.

Perfectly well. You'll be able to play anything you want at 1080p comfortably with an R5 1400+RX 580.

No idea. I don't know how many years you want/expect it to last. I don't know what games/programs you'll use in the future that haven't released yet, nor do I know how those will run. Future proofing is not a thing, but you can easily have this system last you a good few years, depending on how you use it, what you expect/want of it. Most importantly, we could see a huge jump in technology suddenly that no one anticipates so again, I can't say anything with certainty about how long it would last.

The CXM 550w is only $4 or so more, and is Tier 3 vs Tier 4.

Um, no it isn't. It's over $20 more expensive. I do agree that the PSU I included is a budget unit. For <$35 however, it's perfectly adequate. If OP can spend an extra $15-20 on a PSU, he could get a nice semi/fully modular Seasonic unit or EVGA B3. I stuck with the <$35 EVGA 450W B to keep it close to the $750 budget, but fit in a nice Freesync monitor, R5 CPU and an RX 580.

Voltage regulation of the evga is over 2% on average compared to the 1.2% ish on the corsair.

 

Voltage ripple is 60-70 mV on the evga compared to 10-15 mV corsair.

 

For $5 more, you're getting a SIGNIFICANTLY better psu when it comes to voltage ripple and regulation.

Except that it's not literally $5 more, it's $25 more. You know how MIR work right? You pay the $58 and then you mail a receipt away to potentially receive $20 back a couple of months later. That doesn't mean the PSU is $38. It means it's $58 and you maybe get $20 back a few months later.

Note though that percentages in terms of individual parts aren't always the best way to consider these things.

 

If you think in terms of the ENTIRE build, the extra $20 is actually just around a 5% increase. For a power supply that's more than 5% better.

 

Alternatively, this psu is available for about $10 more, and is a similar wattage and also much better quality.

You see, we can argue over this $10 or $20. However, when the worse voltage regulation and voltage ripple might possibly cause some other electronics within the psu to die sooner than if we picked a better unit, you'll find that $10 you cheaped out on seems to now be costing you more than $10.
