Need Ryzen 5 1500X Overclocking Advice

Just did, it's showing the same thing as MSI themed variant.

ok it is not setting properly in the bios then.

I just finished watching Paul's video on how to OC Ryzen 5's the easy way but I'm still left with questions so am hoping someone here knows. While awaiting replies I'm gonna review my BIOS again & take some pics for reference just in case.

1: Will OC'ing in the manner mentioned here, implement the new frequencies on boot or only while stress testing?

2: My board doesn't have a separate Clear CMOS or BIOS button, it's just done by bridging 2 connectors, how can I test these OC's without risk of getting hard locked?

3: How much do I increase or decrease voltage increments by when instability is encountered?

4: How much do I increase Core Clocks increments by for the same thing?

5: Should I just pump 1.4v in if the auto setting doesn't let me go higher than 3.7Ghz & if not should I just do an offset if my MSI B350M allows?

Specs:

Ryzen 5 1500x

MSI B350M Gaming Pro

16GB G.Skill DDR4 3200 (running at 2133 for now)

EVGA G2 550W

MasterCase Pro 3

Wraith Spire Cooler

Samsung 850 EVO

you are going to need about 1.375-1.425v on the cpu, ~1.1v for the soc and 1.35-1.45v for the ram volatge. you should be able to run the ram at 3200mhz or 2933 and get the cpu to 3.8-4.1ghz

Thank you but I'm sorry I'm really new to Overclocking, what does SOC mean? Also do I just put it there from the stock 1.208V immediately or slowly in small increments such as .025?

Here's my current CPU & RAM settings in BIOS, which do I leave alone & which do I change & to what?

CPU Frequency: Auto

Core Perofmrance Boost: Auto

Downcore control: Auto

A-XMP: Profile 1

DDR4 2933MHz 14-14-14-32

DRAM Frequency: DDR4-3200

Adjusted DRAM Frequency: 2133MHz

Memory Try It !: Disabled

Memory Retry Count: 5

CPU Core Voltage: 1.208V Auto

CPU NB Voltage: 1.056V Auto

DRAM Voltage: 1.360V Auto

ok, what cooler do you have?

i would start at

cpu frequency: 37 or 3.7 or 3700? whatever gets 3.7ghz :P

adjusted dram frequency: 2933

cpu core voltage: 1.35v

CPU NB voltage 1.1V

Dram voltage 1.4V

then set that and if it boots ok go into windows and run a quick stress test for a couple of mins. also keep a monitoring program open like hwinfo64 so you can see temps.

I have the Wraith Spire stock cooler; I think I already have it's fan speed set to max but I'll double check when I try your listed recommendations, be right back...I hope lol.

It booted but 2 things, for one my Cinebench score went way down from a 783 stock to 286. Also which Aida64 Extreme test do I run: CPU Queen, CPU PhotoWorxx CPU ZLib, CPU AES or CPU Hash?

I guess it ran correctly did the CPU test same as last time & just re-did it now for a 3rd. Scored a 297, manually checked for Windows updates prior & it found none. Here's some screenshots of what CPU-Z & HWMonitor are saying at idle right now.

I have no idea & I'm glad you noticed that, I'll go back into BIOS now & take some notes as to what's being displayed. What's odd though is what Windows Task Manager says here.

Okay so here's what BIOS claims, should I clear CMOS? Is there a different way to reset to defaults? Should I try overclocking the CPU with Ryzen Master instead? Is my motherboard defective or just so poorly made I'd best just leave CPU stock?

CPU Frequency: 3700

Core Performance Boost: [Auto]

Downcore control [Auto]

A-XMP: [Disabled]

DRAM Frequency: [DDR4-2933]

Memory Try It !: [Disabled]

Memory Retry Count: 5

CPU Core Voltage: 1.352V 1.3500 V

CPU NB Voltage: 1.104V 1.1000 V

DRAM Voltage: 1.408V 1.400 V

There is a setting for DigitALL Power but I haven't messed with that at all.

I disabled core performance boost but can't disable downcore control. The only options for that are Auto, TWO (1 + 1) & TWO (2 + 0). I have no clue what any of that means but my Cinebench scores are once again the same. I haven't noticed a real use performance decline though, however I'm coming from an Athlon X2 260 so still adjusting. I'm not 100% certain but I think my MSI themed CPU-Z reported the Mhz as that same number even before OCing. Then again Cinebench says I'm running at 3.7GHz so I'm completely confused.

This, I remember someone saying that the way CPU-Z reports RAM frequencies you gotta multiply whatever it says by 2 I think.

yes that is correct. so its just the core clock is wrong

So it's a CPU-Z issue & if so why's my OC's Cinebench score so bad when pre-eoc it was pretty good? Should I undo what I did in the 1st OC? I wrote everything down so I'd think I could just reset values without clearing CMOS? Should I reinstall Cinebench?
