Upgrade Issue, Graphics Card first or Monitor first ?

Monitor first. Wait for Volta and/or Vega

I´m planning on upgrading my PC. I currently have 16Gbs of ram, a Core i5 6600K and a gtx 970 from MSI. I´m playing on a Full HD 60Hz Monitor.

I want to buy a GTX 1080 and a 1440p 165Hz Monitor.

My questsion is now what to upgrade first.

I won´t be able to buy the other Upgrade for up to 6 Months.

Most time i play older games like Team Fortress 2, but sometimes i play games like Doom 4, Rainbow Six Siege or Titanfall 2.

The Problem is in that case, the 970 would be way to weak to play these games on max Settings in 1440p at 165 Hz and

a GTX 1080 is simply overkill for 1920p at 60hz.

What should I buy first and why ?

buy the monitor first, because Vega is coming out soon, which might give you better performance than a 1070 for the same price.

or if you have to wait 6 months, maybe volta will be out already.

Or just save up, and buy both at the same time?

GTX 1080, because your sort of future proofing until you get the screen and besides who does not want to own a GTX1080?

what about wait until the gtx 1080 cost around 100 bucks xD ? 6 months is too much time imo and i think that volta is not for consumers... at least the v100
