UK For A Government Controlled Internet - Theresa May

Guest
56 minutes ago, Monkey Dust said:

They'll never do it, it's just pre-election fluff. There is the cost first and foremost, and the country is skint. There are the business leaders, including importantly many Tory party donors, who will recognise that crippling the internet in the UK would be bad for business. Especially for the UK as we make very little, our economy is service based, services that could be very hard to export from behind a China style firewall. And finally the Government fucks up every IT project they touch, so even if they go ahead with it against all reason, it's unlikely to work, and will be so late that it could be killed off by the next government voted in before it was implemented.

Someone will take her to one side and explain all the reasons it's can't happen, and I expect we'll hear no more about it after the election.

It's not about whether they can actually implement it. The fact they're espousing this nonsense is the problem. Imagine a future where they actually do have the capability to do this.

Welcome to the UK, apparently we don't like porn, and the internet stuffs, but want to snoop on everything others are doing. We hate the disabled, unemployed, elderly and immigrants (unless they have important jobs or money, but preferably both). We also don't like our neighbouring countries and want freedom - except of course for the internet stuffs I mentioned earlier  /s

I was gonna make a joke saying "At least it won't be controlled by the EU amirite? Because that's what matters"

this is never going to work, people just vpn/proxy to websites they will never be able to block all of them and then there is tor. Works well in China so will work as well here.

You can't make the "internet" a safe place and you should try too. The internet is a living thing, it changes and evolves and is beautiful to watch.

moreover I believe they mean the "world wide web" the "internet" is a much much more that that.

What horrid move, I'm all in favour of monitoring an internet connection or account when someone is already a threat or suspect, but censorship for everybody is going too far.

Who said it would be for everyone?

I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same thing they did in the investigatory powers act (also introduced by Theresa May).

In case you did not follow that development, the bill (which was declared unlawful by the European court of Justice because it was so intrusive) actually contained a clause which explicitly said that the bill would not apply to MPs. Yes, I am not shitting you. They actually put it into the bill that the mass surveillance could not be used against them. Everyone else was fair game though.

they are leaving the EU so I dare say they are preparing this for then.  They have already proven how dictatorial they want to be with the internet, from here on in unless the headline says "UK government backing down on internet censorship and blocking"* I am not really interested in reading the articles. They just go form bad to worse and nothing would surprise me on that front.

*Or unless someone on here with half a brain points out better information that is actually worth reading.

Been regulated since 1998.

You still can bypass the firewall with VPN, so it doesn't really matter.

-Having Net neutrality.

-Having an unregulated internet.

Pick one, you can't have both.

Have fun.

bright side: there are no more laws and rules from the EU dictating how a pillow should be made

I meant, I am not going to read any more articles, ergo if their manifesto changes I won;t know, so it will either have to be a black and white headline or someone on here pointing me to the article.

But to be quite honest, no, most government manifesto's aren't good enough for me.  All the important bits seem to be written in dodgy half statements.

Unfortunately for us the conservatives are guaranteed to win the general election as still nobody really views the Lib Dems as a contender and Labour is dead - there is no serious opposition .

UK democracy is the illusion of choice. It is currently like asking if I would like to die by cancer or heart attack. Erm, I'd prefer not to have either. I'm still considering my options to participate and not support the system at the same time, most likely by intentionally spoiling my vote. So, how many penises should I draw on the ballot paper? There is a story that once someone did that to show their dislike of a candidate, and the returning officer took it as a vote for the candidate as it was clearly drawn within the appropriate space provided. I will ensure I treat all candidates equally if I decide to go ahead with this.

What is it with UK politicians hating on Porn so fucking much ! Someone's husband must be much more interested in chicks online than in his own wife for fucks sake.

Instead of forcing a better sex education for young children they ban porn, like thats gonna make any difference...

Every day I see a massive billboard with an add for a fragrance that has a half naked seducive looking woman in her bra and underwear displayed outside a shopping centre in London. But that is not bothering any of those politicians. Fuck them....

As a brit myself I absoloutely loathe that I am included in the term "brits" when our shitty government is mentioned as having done something/or not as the case may be... I didn't vote for them, I don't agree with their policies and had no say in them. I'm at the breaking point where I am actually hoping there is another guy fawkes out there that will actually complete his plan of getting rid of all the politicians. There seems to be no democracy any more, or at least the choices are so limited as to be no choice at all really, and they (politicians) are almost all out for themselves, their friends/relatives to get a leg up, while pushing the rest of us into the dirt. The tories are lying, scum sucking leeches that won;t be happy until all the disabled/unemployed and poor are dead, or at least stripped of their rights so that they can win all the elections easier, because the people with money believe their lies that the afforementioned dregs of society are dragging us (brits) down and need to be culled just like the foxes that they like killing so much. I honestly can't see how making the poorer members of society poorer by cutting their benefits is helping anything, there are not enough jobs for the unemployed even, so trying to force the sick and disabled into some kind of work is idiotic, not to mention barbaric.

Anyway, won't go on as I'm getting really angry now thinking about all the human rights violations the tories are commiting and getting away with, not only from any agencies but from our own "brother" brits that believe somehow that everyone on benefit are living the life of luxury and getting everything paid for them. People need to wake the fuck up and smell the bullshit that's coming out of the politicians mouths. And we need some actual people to be heading our country instead of all the privately schooled rich people that we usually end up with as politicians, and they don't know how much people have to try and live on when claiming benefits... I seriously would love to see some of these twats try and live on such a low income and not have access to a bank full of cash, most working class people that work manual jobs have an income far less than the "average" wage and if they are single and not living with someone find it immensely hard to make ends meet, let along someone on benefit. I myself when I was younger had to claim benefit when made redundant when the company I worked for downsized. The job market was very tight at the time and I could not find work, even manual labour, to try and earn a living until something came up in my field. My savings dwindled to nothing after a while, couldn't afford rent and had to move back to my parents house to even survive, luckily I had that option, which many don't and it was very demeaning. Even then it was still tight financially and had to cut out everything in the way of entertainment and luxury, I could afford to eat and that was about it, and bus fare to the jobcentre to look for jobs once a week as I couldn't afford more often. Once I finally got a job and made some money to get back on my feet I was determined to never be in that situation again, but hardly anyone has job security and could end up like that through no fault of their own. But people that have never had to be in that situation don't know how hard it is and think that many people on benefit are scroungers and getting lots of things for free... to those people I hope you never have to be in that situation, but you need to open your eyes and see things clearly, not just base your opinion on stories you see in the media. Rant end/

We will continue to see these kinds of policies and bills  until they are out of governent, and even then under a new government could still see them. They don't know anything about such things (clearly), and seem to pull these ideas out of their arses.
