Dual monitors DVI + HDMI

Guest

I have a 64 bit windows 10 pc with an amd R9 390. (HDMI, DVI, DVI, DP)

my current monitor is Hdmi plugged into the gpu.

I have a second DVI monitor but I can't get the computer to detect it.

I tried plugging it in while the computer was on, restarting it and plugging it into the 2 DVI ports on the gpu.

Hdmi monitor is 1920 x 1080

DVI monitor is 1600 x 900

The second monitor (1600 x 900) only has DVI and VGA. The first monitor (1920 x 1080) is HDMI and VGA only

Unplug your first monitor and see if you can get signal through DVI just that one monitor plugged in.

I tried that and it didn't work. How do I get the computer to switch displays?

It should auto detect any plugged in monitors, so if you only have the 1 monitor hooked up it should simply display to it. It's either something faulty with your DVI cable or DVI port. Whether or not it's the dvi jack on your graphics card or the dvi jack on the monitor is up to you to troubleshoot.

Thank you. I'll see about troubleshooting.

Just wondering though,

A DVI monitor and an HDMI monitor with different resolutions CAN be used at the same time?

Yep, I have my main 1440p display hooked up with DP. Then one 1080p monitor DVI to DVI, and one more 1080p monitor HDMI to DVI (had to order special hdmi to dvi cable off amazon)
