The trick is to not wipe more than once with the same dirty piece of paper towel.

For the one that doesn't know lm is liquid metal , by the way use sandpaper for that or use again liquid metal to make liquid again

That's actually pretty interesting, I always recommend people just use water and paper towel to wipe paste off but that's because I always used MX-4, I didn't know that there were crappy thick pastes out there that don't come off clean...

fucking PGA sockets, Thermal compound is stronger then the damn socket retention, did that twice myself when swapping out the stock cooler to a Hyper 212 on the work FX6300 CPU,

I think the real issue here is not knowing what the acids in the coke and orange juice are doing to the metal of the heatsink while they are on there, I wouldn't put that stuff on my computer parts, but then again I just wipe with a paper towel, not super concerned with getting every last flake off, and regarding cleaning, how about just using the coffee filters with no "solvents"?

I think PGA sockets are more reliable and easier to install rather than LGA.

never had any trouble installing either, difference is LGA doesn't rip out when removing the cooler, so that alone makes me like it better.

there's a downside to this test....... its for cleaning still relatively new paste....

but usually the most likely scenario is your parents/neighbor/not so savvy friend ask to fix their over heating dell/HP or other store bought desktop

their thermal compound would be dry and hardened....

speaking from experience, elbow grease would take a decent amount of time and sheets of paper towels. and the hair dryer heating didnt help... it was like a 5-7 year old HP tower...

i always keep a personal bottle of Isopropyl at my computer box after that.... but in a pinch, paint thinner meant for plastic hobby kits work just as well... but the fumes are worse for personal health

A random rag or paper towel, who needs solvent? If it's old, dried on paste, just use a little elbow grease?
