Open air or Blower

PyroDaddy

Since the prices of the 1080 have gone down I've been looking to buy one. I have found two on amazon both are from Evga and I was wondering if i spend the extra money on a open air since the blower is $439 as of now or if i should spend $530 on the SC2/SC. Which would you recommend I have a Define r5 case so they would both cool pretty well in my case.

really depends on your case.

If its mITX depending on the case then blower is better*. If its a full ATX or a mid tower open air should be fine.

For me my mITX system is water cooled and the GPU idles at 60C (open air) while the CPU floats at around 35 on water which hard to complain about.

From personal experience of running an open-aire gigabyte gtx 1060 in my define r5 - openair will be fine in your case

im running my define r5 with
2x140 intake at the front

1x120 intake at the bottom

removed my top HDD case

1x140 exhaust at the back

my GTX 1060 doesnt go over 62c

I say get the open-air EVGA card, its usually overbuilt and allows your gpu to run cooler and quieter - also alllows for a better GPU boost to clock speeds

Define R5 is an ATX mid-tower, so go with the open-air design.

Thank you for the replies, I was also wondering if I should save up a little and get a 1080ti or if I should stick with getting the 1080?

Really depends imo. For 1080p a 1080 will be plenty of power for a long time.

if you plan to game at 1440p or even 4K a 1080ti will give you a better experience.

Also if you spent as much money on a gpu like the 1080 you might as well go for the ti as it has around 20-25% more performance.

It's also like 50% more expensive

I know that yeah, but some just want the best card they can possibly purchase. Personally I wouldn't even get a 1080 for my needs.
