Used GTX 980 Ti or RX 580

Im looking to upgrade my GTX 560 Ti. Currently I have the choice of either buying a used EVGA GTX 980 Ti FTW Edition with one more month of warranty left on it or getting a brand new MSi RX 580. The catch is with the GTX 980 Ti it costs $20 more and it is a used card.

GTX 980ti is almost as powerful as GTX 1070 which is quite a bit more powerful than RX580.. so get the GTX 980ti.

980TI is much better, get that. 

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

I also have the option of getting a used MSi GTX 980 Ti Lightning which I'm leaning towards. Do you guys think that the RX 580 will be better for DX12 compared to the 980 Ti overtime though?

Well, there's still very few DX12 titles out to be honest...but I don't think even with driver improvements, the 980 Ti would lose to the 580 in DX12 (depends on game though). It's sadly hard to judge the future.

 

980 Ti would win in everything else. If you can OC it to 1,500 Mhz+, it will pass the 1070.

 

Do note the 980 Ti runs really hot. I use mine to render and it's usually at 74C at full load. I have a Gigabyte Gaming G1.

980Ti would cream on an RX 580, infact 980Ti with a decent OC could possibly get close to RX 580 CF

Yep, it would be. Though these days, I'd probably say try to get a 1060 6GB if a used 970 costs too much.
