Is this MacBook Pro worth fixing?

Hi! so recently I was browsing craigslist trying to find a cheap macbook pro for school and I came across this computer. The seller says that it can't get past the system restore point so he removed the HDD and is selling for parts. I was wondering if the issue was just his hard drive and if i were to put a new one in and try to reinstall the OS that would fix the problem. Or is this not worth the trouble.

Could be HDD, that only makes sense. If you can get it working for $250 that's quite a steal honestly. I can't really think of much other than the HDD that might be the problem but then again I'm not 100% sure.

 

Though if you wanted to install macOS on it you'd need a mac in order to create an installer.

Yeah it's a steal, slap a new SSD in there connect her to the net via the internet and use internet recovery mode alt+cmd+r on startup. 

The serial number will register with apple's server and you'll be able to download an OS the unit shipped with.

Dude, there could be WAY more issues than just the HDD. You need to BRING a HDD and a set of tools with you to verify that it's not another component failure that is causing the inability to restore the Mac.

im just worried that it may be the issue. I really dont want to gamble with $250... though if i can get it to work then it would be a steal
