Microsoft announces a new budget Surface laptop system aimed for students. It is a system that doesn’t detach like the Surface Book. It is a simple laptop design. It is a 13.5inch laptop which feature Microsoft 3:2 aspect ratio Pixel Sense display. As inputs, it has the core essentials: It features 1x USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort and a headphone plug. It also continues to feature the Surface line magnetic power connector. It doesn’t have USB Type-C, but the price is low. The system is 2.76lb or 1.25kg, and is 14.47mm thin (max thickness). Has a magnesium body, and fabric surface palm rest area.

May be worth saying it has the same class processor as the MBP 13" but with Kaby lake instead of skylake

Also lighter than the and Macbook Air or Pro.

The fabric is from the special edition SP4 cover released a while ago. The standard SP4 have a more felt-like material.

It is actually the video playback battery life. LOL!

I guess that is with Edge, non-HD video, 50% screen brightness, excellent wireless connection, backlit keyboard off.

But yes, we have to wait for reviews. But even if it gets you 10h, that is still really good.

I got the 4 config pricing from inspect element in chrome on spec page

i5 4GB 128GB $999

i5 8GB 256GB $1299

i7 8GB 256GB $1599

i7 16GB 512GB $2199

My Pro 4 was almost $1799 for i7 + 16GB RAM and I thought that was a damn ripoff.

Such rip........

More likely local playback in using the hardware acceleration of Kaby lake chips lol. The comparison show was between the Surface Laptop and the Macs using Itunes video playback

Damn I'd get the SP4 or the Book if I was looking at any options for those prices. You'll get a much nice screen and accessory integration.

Unless the fabric pad is made of Microfibers or Nubbuck leather, then it shouldnt get stained, suffer from discoloration or any other surface marks, since Alcantara is very resilient against water and other liquid substances, including sticky ones. Quite stronger than Velour or Velvet for that matter.

feck, i would have gotten one of those to replace my T420, if it wasn't for that darn price, aiming something at schools/students you should go for chromebook pricing, $200-400, as they'll be broken alot, constantly damaged, and a high risk of being nicked.

what's annoying is you can get an XPS 13 for the same price and they comes with a full version of windows, as it's pretty obvious that M$ will make you pay to upgrade the OS.

Intel i5-6600K@4.2GHz, 16GB Crucial DDR4-2133, Gigabyte Z170X-UD3, Be quiet shadow rock slim, Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC, Fractal design Integra M 550W, NZXT S340, Sandisk X110 128GB, WD black 750GB, Seagate momentus 160GB, HGST 160GB

@GoodBytes Typo in the specs.

It's actually 2256x1504 resolution.

It's aimed towards students, but my question becomes what students are they aiming for specifically? If this is for post high school college students I don't see the appeal, however it may be just me, I see more appeal for buisness grade laptops for a college student.

Yes. And The website says Surface Laptop is only available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB but makes no reference to the 1TB option.

Post High-School. But yea, you can buy it, upgrade to 10 Pro for free (until Dec 31st), and you have a nice premium laptop.
