Considering This Monitor

Heavygun1450

Hey Guys,

Considering a monitor upgrade this summer. Currently running 2 Asus 1080P IPS 60Hz monitors. Recently upgraded my GPU to a 1070. I want to upgrade to 1440P, hence forth, i am in the market for a new monitor. This is the Monitor I have been eyeing https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-PB277Q-WQHD-2560x1440-Monitor/dp/B01EN3Z7QQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493512299&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+pb277q . My Budget is probably no more than $350. From what I have been researching the G sync 144hz Monitors start at $500. I would like 144hz and G Sync but seems my budget falls short. This monitor I have been eyeing is 1440p, 75hz, TN panel. I like the fact its $257, and that its 75hz, an improvement over 60 for sure. I guess this would be a good match for my 1070, as in benchmarks it seems it cant push 1440p ultra past 75hz anyways. One downside is that its a TN panel, Not sure if I will hate/notice the color difference when gaming. It is also 27 inches, an improvement over my 24 inch 1080p monitors. I only do gaming on my rig, no photo editing or anything like that. Would you say this monitor is a good pick? Researching online there arent really any better options at this price point.

Not really. I rarely play CSGO and I dont think improving frame rate would help my performance. I play overwatch a bit also. I play BF1 quite a bit. I never have really thought when im gaming "man 60hz sucks". Typically I care about a stable framerate and graphics quality.

60 Hz is bad once you use a better one. I have a 60 Hz and I only used it. I thought it was fine. Then I played on a 144 Hz and it's much smoother. I recommend a 144 Hz or at least a 120 Hz monitor. If you play online fps games it's easier with a better monitor. It looks so much smoother. G-sync is very expensive, around 500 dollars for 144 Hz G-Sync. But there are no 1440p 144 Hz monitors. But, if you don't mind 1920 by 1080

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-27-Inch-Curved-Monitor-C27FG70/dp/B01M1DEEYP?th=1 . This ones curved, fairly cheap, 144 Hz, 1ms response time, and it has great colors and contrast.

Otherwise, the monitor you looked at is the best in its category.

There are 144hz 1440p monitors with g-sync and freesync:

Thing is, I want to go to 1440P. My only concern with this particular monitor is that its a TN panel. Not sure how good of a quality panel it is. IDK if i will notice  the color difference going from ips to tn when im gaming or not. I will consider that monitor choice. Im just not sure if I will see a big difference going from a 1080p 60hz panel to a 1080p 144hz panel. Also if im going back to 1080p I would probably want G sync.

Any reasonable g-sync monitor is out of your price range. You will notice the color difference between a TN and an IPS. But, with IPS, you can't get good performance without spending less than 600 dollars. The Samsung one I recommended ( https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-27-Inch-Curved-Monitor-C27FG70/dp/B01M1DEEYP?th=1 ) is a VA panel. This means it has better performance than the IPS panel, while also having better colors than a TN. (There's a techquickie on the panel types).  If you really want 1400p gaming you should get the monitor you looked at. You will notice a difference in 144 Hz, but the limiting factor of a 144Hz monitor is your computer speed. So if your gonna run all 3 monitors get the one you chose because a 1070 might not be enough for 3 monitors. So if your want to run all 3 monitors go with your monitor. If you really want a 1440p monitor, go with your monitor. If your gonna run 2 monitors, and you want the smoother quality as well as an edge in games, a curved monitor and your willing to let 1440p go, get the Samsung one. But, either monitor you choose, they are both great budget monitors so you can't really go wrong. Good luck in your search for a monitor.
