Why 60 herz is concidered as a standart

Gameborn

As I know, CRT's were higher than that (more than 70) to make flickering less visible, but why most of displays even today is 60hz? Why to move back from what people used to back in early 2000's? And even today not much monitors are more than 60hz? Is there a reason for that?

Early LCDs could not achieve the 75–85 Hz CRT standards very reliably, but since they didn't need those high refresh rates to avoid flickering anyway, 60 Hz was acceptable and became standard.

also I noticed that many older lcd monitors were often 75hz. I have 5x4 1280x1024 monitor laying around with 75 herz refresh rate
