Mouse DPI and in game sensitivity question

Rulley

Hey guys, I need some advice here on an issue i heard on someone's stream.

From what I understood is that, the higher dpi the more sensitive the mouse, hence it's smoother.

So what if instead of playing on 400dpi with 10 sensitivty, why not play on 800 dpi with 5 sensitivity? You still have the same sensitivity, but your mouse is a lot smoother.

Is that true? or bogus?

Thanks!

It depends on the game itself. Personally, I use 1500, 1800, or 2400 and then set sensitivity in-game for the slowest point that I can DPI switch between for speedy access.

Also, DPI means "dots per inch" meaning that if your DPI is 1500, you should theoretically move 1500 pixels over in that span.

That would be the polling rate i believe..

Keep it what you're used to. I fucked mine up and i couldn't play until i realized what i did.

Smoother? No. If there is a theoretical advantage depends on Sensor used and Firmware, PMW3310 for example would be 30*30 and with all other factors included you end somewhere at 800 as "base", which is then scaled via DSP.

The only things that would make a mouse more "accurate" would be the surface, sensor, and user. DPI is part of user controls as is surface type.

I use like 5000 dpi on average just over 4000 for starcraft and sometimes 6000-8000 on desktop. I rarely go over 10000 but I have some stages up there on some mouse profiles but I rarley touch that dpi. I stick with about the half way point for the mouse I use, about on average and just turn the sensitivity down on Windows too the Second tick. More Dpi doesn't really mean Smoother tho, Linus explained lots of mice just Multiply the natural Dpi, Essentailly upscalling just to have more numbers. So if a mouse says 12000 it may only have 4000 dpi sensor and than it just creates more dots inbetween whats already there. Unless the Sensor really is able to measure all those dots but I havn't seen a way to test for sure ;)
However the Dpi is adjustable and some mice can program to do on the fly so you can change sensitivity in game essentially. So for CS go if I scope in sometimes I turn down dpi too 800 or 1600.
