Not true. In the Phone 7 and 8.x days, they definitely marketed their platform towards consumers, focusing on its integration with social media like Facebook and Twitter, the Rooms feature and how that can benefit families and promoting the photography capabilities of the Lumia 1020, 1520 and Icon/930.

I'm upset by the thought it won't succeed.  My first phone was CE (yes they have been around since before iphone and android) then experiencing IOS and android in between, now my last two phones are windows. I prefer the windows phone. It basically is as stable as IOS while as cheap as android.  If it wasn't for the lack of apps it'd be a gold winner for me.  

Anyway,  the market is demanding and only those who can supply succeed, So we'll see in a few years whether MS ballsed it up or not.

Oh, it absolutely will. Windows 10 Mobile is Windows Phone, just under a different name to make it "the same" as Windows 10 for desktops, laptops and tablets. That's why you're able to use the two names interchangeably.

But by all accounts, given their 'Windows 10 for all' strategy, ie. Continuum and all the work they've put into UWP, it's hard to imagine they will simply drop it all.

As for using the names interchangeably, personally I don't. I grew up with what a Windows Phone actually was. Windows 10 Mobile and what they're turning it into is quite different.
