Which high-end gaming monitor to get? (21/9 vs 165hz)

TKOP

So I have kind of run the arguments through my head and I have come to a stalemate so I hope you guys could give me some perspective.

What I am looking for is a high-end gaming monitor, 1440p, high refreshrates, IPS panel. G-sync is a nice to have, not a need.

I have got some good offers on both slightly used and brand new monitors:

1. Acer X34A, slightly used - ~$770

2. Acer XB271HUbmiprz, slightly used - ~$590

3. Asus MG279Q, slightly used - ~$520

4. Acer XB271HUbmiprz, new - ~$855

5. Asus MG279Q, new - ~$665

6. Asus PG279Q, new - ~$885

So these are some of the things that have been bothering me the most:

I have been using the LG 34UM95 as my main monitor and I highly appreciate the 21/9 aspect ratio but is it a good enough trade-off to get one of the 144/165hz models instead of the 100hz Acer X34A?

Also is it worth going for 165hz over 144?

Is tearing that big a deal at high refreshrates or should I just save the cash and go for the MG279Q? (using a GTX1070)

Also I have heard rumors about bad QR across the board but mostly for the ASUS models. Can anyone inlighten my?

If anyone has any order factors I might wanna consider or some other monitor models I really should know about plz let me know.

If you can't guarantee getting 144 FPS or even 165 FPS, then the prospect of getting a high refresh rate monitor is kind of meh.

G-SYNC is also something I don't really recommend going after if you're the kind of person who prioritizes frame rates without regard to quality (i.e., you're willing to turn down details to bump up the frame rate). G-SYNC only kicks in if you're below the refresh rate and at higher refresh rates and frame rates, it may be harder to see tearing anyway.

Yeah like what was stated earlier there really isn't as much of a point to gsync at high refreshrates. The place where gsync shines is when the fps is lower than the refreshrate of the monitor and when the fps is lower than 100. If it's higher than 100 then often times the frame isn't on the screen long enough to see the screen tearing. My friend who uses a 144hz monitor doesn't use any sort of syncing technology and I can't for the life of me see any screen tearing when he had high fps. That being said when the framerates drops below that 100 fps or so it starts to become noticeable.

That X34 is screaming at me, it depends on what games you play - although a single 1070 might not like the pixels of an X34

ATM I'm mainly playing OW and R6 Siege which really shouldn't be that demanding for my PC to run.

Generally speaking I prefer graphical quality over fps. OW, R6 Siege and Battlefield are the only games where I feel like I need higher refreshrates but I'm spending so much time on them that I feel like a high-end gaming monitor would be a good investment. The thing with the G-sync monitors though are that they are able to push 165hz. The non-G-sync variant, Asus MG279Q, is "only" able to push 144hz. Idk how much a difference 21fps is tho.

Do the used displays come with warranty or exchange period?

If so, try the XB271HU or MG279Q and return if its unacceptable

All items sold in Denmark has a 2 year warrenty but only 2 weeks exchange periods.

All the used monitors aren't more than a couple of months old

Good enough. 2 weeks is plenty time to find any issue with the product

Oh the 2 weeks is unconditionally. So as long as you haven't damaged the product you exchange it or have a full refund, no questions asked.
