A question to Hyper X cloud users

So my headphones just broke, and It didn't last very long (just over a year), so I'm looking for a new 7.1 head set. I wanted to ask any of you who owned a hyper x cloud or cloud 2 for a while (2 years plus), how well has it lasted over time? 

I just want to make sure the next head set I buy will last and not brake in a year. 

If you had a 7.1 headset that is around the same price and lasted this long as well, I would be glad to know as well.

Well I have a HyperX cloud 2 (which should be the same as the original in terms of quality) and its still my "main" headset sooo... :P

To be fair, I am very careful with my stuff so take it with a pinch of salt.

How long have you had it for? 

I was careful with mine as well. I just came home one day and it was broken. I just want to make sure that the next head set I get will last.

I have my pair of Cloud 2s and they have held up very good. Still have not broke. I guiss thgat you have watched Linus review off the original Clouds were he says something like "iam a little bit worried over the headband adjustment mechanism". But i have nothing to complain in that compartement. Have dropped mine a few times but they have held up very well.

I got a set of HyperX Clouds when Warlords of Draenor started, so about 3-4 years ago.  Used them as my daily driver at my PC for about 2 years before switching to the Astro A40 headset.  Currently using the AKG K7XX off Massdrop.  I have used my Clouds a couple times since I switched to the A40, mostly after my A40's right speaker started to go out (after about a year of use). So they definitely more durable than Astros xD

 

I would highly recommend these headphones if this is the price point you are aiming for.  They have lasted me years and I notice no loss in quality, comfort, or fit.  In terms of gaming headphones, they are probably the best value out there.  

 

However, we should have a quick discussion about what you are actually looking for and what you are looking to spend.  You mentioned "7.1 headset".  There are very few (if any) true 7.1 headsets.  I think the best you can find is 5.1, and most people say the sound from headsets like those are terrible.  Surround sound is achieved by having multiple speakers located around you.  With headsets, you mostly just have the two (one for each ear) which means that any surround sound you generally get is virtually created via software.  A headset like the Clouds only "include 7.1 sound" because they come with an inline "high quality USB sound card" which is packaged with software that virtually simulates surround sound.  This same effect can usually be achieved using your onboard audio and included audio software (though its usually crap), or by buying a cheap $30-$50 sound card to plug your headset into.  In terms of getting high quality gaming sound, a nice stereo headset with a sound card is always gonna be your best option.  So again, how much are you willing to spend?

 

Anything more than $125-$150 for gaming headsets is NOT worth it (unless you're paying extra $$ because you care about the attached mic).  However, if you are interested in jumping up to around $200, I would look into Audio-Technica, Sennheiser, or Beyerdynamic headsets with a sound card.  The only problem with this route is that you will need an external AMP for some of the headsets in this quality/price range which will then increase the overall price even more.

I'm looking for a head set for price of cloud/cloud 2 head set that lasts and has "virtual surround sound". It doesn't matter to me if its "true 7.1 surround" as long as it sounds like it (I had a corsair HS40, so something like that). 

The could 2 where I live costs around 97 USD. I would prefer not to get any higher then that.

I was honestly happy with my HS40 and wish they wouldn't have broke.

I have had them for a year or so now. I can't stand the USB dongle that is included. It adds a ton of hiss, buzz, and makes everything too loud

Yeah everyone I know has it. It isn't noticeable if you turn it up but I have my volume at about 4 on windows so I get some noise. But I simply bought a channel splitter and made it analog so it doesn't happen. Was about $6 on amazon for both cables and it works perfectly now

I beat mine into the ground (10+ hours every day). Around 6 months in the pleather began to peel, but new pads are cheap. Structurally the headphones are still doing great.

 

Would recommend looking into Cloud I's or Cloud Cores if they're cheaper where you are; physically they're the same headphones but come with an extra extension cable instead of the throwaway dongle.
