Seagate and DJI HDD for drones

NumLock21

Seagate and DJI have teamed up and made a portable hard drive for drones.

It comes in a rugged design, has a integrated sd card slot, and comes with a free 2 month subscription to Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Drive uses usb type c 3.1 for data transfering.

Quote
  • Capacity: Up to 2TB. With this kind of space, Fly Drive can store over 60 hours of 4K 30fps video footage. On a drone like the DJI Mavic Pro, that's more than 250 flights worth of content.
  • MicroSD Card Slot: Managing multiple SD cards, readers and cables in the field is a pain. Thanks to an integrated hub that's UHS-II-rated, you'll be more effective in the field by being able to quickly drag and drop 4K files from your MicroSD card to Fly Drive or your computer.
  • Protective Bumper: The drive's integrated, protective bumper helps provide shock resistance against inevitables in the field, like being jostled around or dropped while packing and traveling. Safely tucked inside of the bumper is its USB-C cable, ideal for on-the-spot file transfers.
  • USB 3.1 Interface: Compatible with both Mac and Windows, Fly Drive's USB 3.1 Type-C interface allows for fast file transfers with the latest generation Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 computers.

Price will be at $120 and there will be on demo at this year's NAB.

Its only their desktop HDD which can either exceed SATA1 or near SATA2 speeds. Going off the size of the "new" HDD it'll be lucky to come close to SATA1 speeds.

Yeah, for things like 'Consumer' - 'NAS' - 'Surveilance' it's fine, but a fucking drone drive?

They did the same shit with the Xbox game drive - it's a portable HDD in a new shell with a new partner's branding

idk

People will buy them, whether you like it or not.

Btw, that drive also supports thunderbolt 3.

Usb 3, will run close to a internal hdd with direct sata connection. Hdd on sata 3 and 6 have no significant difference.

*won't saturate USB 3.0*

That's RAID 0 though. I've got one of their 7200RPM 2TB Desktop HDD, and it can only just obtain 180MB/sec reads after a complete reformat.

Even if it's raid, it's still spinning rust saturating USB3

Only if they've had a complete reformat. With use they'd rapidly drop off to under 3Gbps.

ya but USB 3.1 can be 5Gbps or 10Gbps and USB 2 is 480Mbps which will be a bottle neck for a HDD, so it is only logical to use USB 3/3.1
