Nvidia GTX 1060 3gb/6gb OR RX 570/470

chexor

Hi! I am in market for GPU. Here, in my country, pricing of GPU's is a joke so i have budget around 230-240 $.

I want to game on 2560x1080p 60hz.

I was very close buying GTX 1060 3gb (For Gigabyte Windforce price is 235$, but cheapest one Zotac mini is 225$)

Will that 3gb of VRAM limit me for a bit higher resolution then clasic 16:9 1080p?

Cheapest 1060 with 6gb of VRAM is EVGA, cost around 277$ (USD)

RX 570 4gb (ASUS with 2 fans, decent one) is 235$, thats almost the cheapest RX570.

RX 580 4gb is 275$ and higher

Should i consider going with RX 470, because right now Gigabyte g1 gaming is 208$

So i am in dilemma, will 1060 3gb bottleneck me, should i go for 4gb 570 and will this trend of dx12 favoring AMD gpus continue for new titles, or maybe even RX470.

RX 570 and GTX 1060 3gb= same price, both decent aftermarket coolers, but in DX11 titles in benchmark (linus benchmark) RX 570 is 7-15% slower then 1060 3gb.

Thanks for the answers and feedback

RX 570 4GB is faster than GTX 1060 3GB but slower than GTX 1060 6GB.

I would go with the 570.

470 is fine as well but Gigabyte makes one of the worst coolers for these cards so I would avoid it.

This is a no brainer, I couldn't read your OP since you disregarded night theme users but between the rx570 and the 3gb 1060 the RX570 is the superior purchase in price to performance.

Edit, I read it and if you want 2560x1080p then you should totally get the rx570 and pair it with the 29UM68-P for those 75hz on FreeSync

The RX 570 or RX 580 are good choices but in this case I'd personally lean towards an RX 580 8GB.

I know you didn't state an RX 580 as an option but if you can try to squeeze that in your budget then that will help down the road.

I wouldn't recommend a 3GB or 4GB video card for 16:9 1440p, let alone an Ultrawide.

The button to the very right when posting ort editing, next to the size and font selectors. The T with the subscript X below it, its the "remove formating button" and will allow text to show natively for either day or night theme users. :)

@DocSwag @cj09beira Yes this monitor is actually great, I use it on my main rig too, 80hz, FastSync does good enough since I use nVidia but the FreeSync would be well received plus.

29inch really is 2560x1080p sweetspot, its IPS Matte panel is awesome, The monitor also is very pretty I love its standing. I have been extremely satisfied with it, gonna give it to my mom next year when I finally upgrade to the Acer x34 but I could stick to it for years to come to be honest, it totally feels up-to-date with the highest end feeling.

Yea I got the 29um67 instead and it's really great; got a 970 so I'm waiting for vega to be able to take advantage of the freesync :P but colors are great; I really can't say much bad about it considering I got it for $270 or so.

Same monitor here.  Best I have had so far and I tried a few... ?

It would be amazing if they made one that was 100hz instead of "just" 75hz, but what am I complaining about? The monitor is amazing as especially with a slightly expanded freesync range  (there are tutorials online specifically using this monitor).

What about Asus Dual RX 480 4GB GDDR5?

It is 10$ cheaper then g1 gaming.

Maybe i should wait for prices to drop on RX 570, right now they are higer then even rx 480 4gb models

The Asus dual is cooler, but also a bit louder :/

Every cheap model of 480 runs hot. Still within the tolerant margin, nothing to worry about.

AND fan profile curve can be adjusted aswell

Looks to be the expedition series, which I can't find too much info on when it comes to temps and noise.

I'd probably say get the dual 480, since any 480 is better than a 570.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

since any 480 is better than a 570.

Ok we got to this point. Define "better" (since you talk about acoustics and temps). After you talked about in-depth review of 480 you should not give this kind of answer.

Higher fps. And considering the prices OP has to pay it seems like an "x" tier 570 card costs the same as an "x" tier 480 card, making a 480 overall a better buy.
