That CPU is not very powerful, for gaming and mediacreation it'll be a poor choice.

Get a better quality PSU as well, look into this PSU tier list:

You'll want a tier 1-3! Keep in mind that wattage amount doesn't make the quality.

It's possible get a 1000w that's a complete fire hazard.

As for the CPU, if you want something that wont bottleneck an i5 will do you better. I'd say the i5 7600k is a good choice since you picked that motherboard.

If you wont overclock your CPU I recommend a B250 LGA 1151 motherboard with either i5 7500/7600 (NON K). :)

Go 1600/B350, not i5/Z270 (or Z170).

You also don't need an aftermarket cooler for non-k cpu's, unless you are concerned about noise and asthetics.

Non-k cpu on a z270 board... either drop to a b250 board, or change to a k cpu.

For your budget, I'd go for either b250 + locked i5 - 7600 or z270 + i5-7600k.

I'm assuming your going for an intel build, and assuming your planning on gaming. If your doing streaming, etc, that requires more cores, Ryzen is an option, but then again not everyone loves AMD.

Edit: Just read your blurb that I missed, Ryzen might be a better option due to the increased cores helping you in music creation and editting.

Current System Specs:

CPU: Intel I5-7660K; CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212X; Thermal Paste: IC Diamond 7 Carat; Motherboard: MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon;

RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8gb) DDR4 - 2400; SSD Storage: 1TB Samsung 850 EVO; Storage: 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm;

GPU: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1070 8gb G1 Gaming; Case: NZXT Phantom 530 Black; PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 650W 80+ Gold, OS: Windows 10 Home

I should've been more clear, sorry.  I was saying, in general, not in direct response to you, that the i5 is not a very good deal, especially in his case, because the 1600 is a thing. I quoted you because you recommended an i5/i7.

So, let me rephrase.  Don't buy Intel in this price bracket.
