If your just gaming stick with Intel.

Ryzen is a great platform for those who do more than just games, but for just games, the 7700 is a beast.

Well, kinda.

a 6400 is worse than a 1400, even for gaming, because of it's lower clockspeed and because it's locked. an OC'ed 1400 beats a 6400 in gaming.

I compared it to a 6400 because they're both the cheapest new quad cores you can get from both companies.

For ANY gaming, that current build is more than enough!

But IF you did upgrade:

-get more RAM

-Nothing more, that build is insane the way it is now, maybe dual 1080Tis?

Ahh gotcha. Well try to aim for that kind of build but look for another air cooler, not a Hyper 212 EVO though that one's bad. You can ask here for a recommendation for that (but please tell us where you live)

eh i mean on the big end of the cpu world. No ryzen chip touches a 7700k in games. But yeah at the <$250 price point ryzen is the clear choice imo

To be fair, I will probbably switch to Ryzen, but not because Intel performs bad. I just hate those hot CPUs from Intel ... i7 7700k at stock speeds is almost overheating out of the box. But those CPUs are "meant" to run at 5GHz all the time, so to acchive that you need to delid them.

I would buy i7 7700k for my rig instantly, if it was already delided and taken care of that overheating issue. But because that's not possible I'm stuck with either X99 platform or Ryzen since those are all soldered.

X99 is going to become dead platform since Intel will be releasing X299 soon. Not sure if I want to wait that long, just to see 6 core CPUs priced at 500€ and 8 core CPUs at 700€.

BIOS update only takes few minutes .... If that's the case in your house, I'm wondering why didn't you already buy UPS. You can get them as cheap as 50€, and plug your PC + monitor on it. When power outage happens, you still have around 10min time to normally shut down your PC.

Or you can pay a little more money and have that UPS with function to notify you when power outage happens, so even if you are not at home, you can remoetly turn off your PC when something like that happens. It's a good feature.

Agreed you should have UPS anyway. A lot of PSUs especially the cheap ones don't take kindly to power outages.

1700. Just yesterday I upgraded from a 6700k to a 1800x and there is little difference in gaming but a huge difference in multi core stuff. Like, why on earth would you pick a 7700k over Ryzen? Seriously now, Ryzen is better all around.

Yeah the 6700k is marginally slower than the 7700k and the 1800x is better than the 7700. But the difference between the i7s is so little and the 1700 can be overclocked to match a 1800x

Because the 7700k has better performance for pure gaming. Ryzen is a more work-oriented CPU. Yeah, it does good in gaming also, but that's like saying a Quadro is better than a 1080ti. It is, but only in the situation which it was designed for. Plus the 7700k is cheaper.

1800x Better than 7700k? Define better?

Because in gaming it is far behind my friend.

Also buying a 1800x/1700x over a 1700 is pretty stupid these days, as all chips once OC'ed run at the same frequency give or take, so it's only for those who are unable to OC themselves :)
