Upgrade

DaroFreeman

Hey there, for the past weeks I've been thinking about upgrading my GTX 1060 to a GTX 1070.

This is my current build and I'm only looking to change my GPU: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PWbdYr

I can sell my 1060 to a friend and money isn't really the problem, I'm just wondering if it's worth it and which 1070 I should buy.

Please help me out.

GTX 1070 really outperforms the GTX 1060 on 1440p resolution. If you only play on 1080p you should stick with the 1060 then (except if you want to play on 144Hz).

I play on 1080p but do have a 144Hz monitor.

If money is not a problem then go for a 1080. Not just the price dipped after the launch of 1080ti, but the 1070 will NOT play 1080p 144Hz at high quality in AAA titles 1 or 2 years in the future.

The money for a 1070 is not really a problem, but upgrading to a 1080 seems to be a little bit overkill to me.

You can go used-market hunting. I have seen people selling their 99% new 1080s because 1080ti is out.

I'm going to look for someone who's selling it. Which 1070 do you guys recommend or is there not really a difference between like a 1070 from msi and a 1070 from gigabyte?

Go for MSI. It has better cooling, is more silent and is good at overclocking.

Is there a big difference between let's say a GTX 1060 6G and a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 WINDFORCE OC 8GB?

The 1070 is a whole different league to what the 1060 is in (that's to be expected). The 1070 has the gaming performance of a 980Ti and a Titan XM.

If you plan on playing at 1080 then no. But if you are going to play on 1440p or higher then there will be a big difference in performance.

So playing games like GTA V, PUBG, Mafia 3 at 1080p with a 144Hz monitor won't affect it that much and it's better to just keep my 1060?

No problem, but it just won't reach 144 FPS unless you turn down the settings. You will need at LEAST (not guaranteed) a 1070 to reach that
