Asus Strix 1080 TI Very Odd Issue (Please help)

Just now, farmfowls said:

I have already tried using DDU. Didn't fix it. And I noticed that as well. MSI shows it as boosting.... Do you think GPU Tweak II is just going for real time?

Not that I know so far. For me to say the least, my GPU will easily do 2 GHz boost under ideal thermal conditions.

What I would do is uninstall one of the overclocking utilities. Maybe they don't like each other, and the only other reason why I had MSI Afterburner was for the RivaTuner Statistics Server OSD. I tried to use it standalone, but that didn't work as expected. I would mostly uninstall MSI Afterburner because the version I had lacked voltage control.

Yeah I know what you mean but for some reason this program automatically downloaded on my intel machines. Just something to check.

For me I knew it had to be a program because it worked smooth for a little but after I reinstalled windows. But got choppy again when I started losing programs back on. This one must have downloaded in the background. With other drivers.

Some thing about this dosen't seem right......

I'll give that a go. I'm pretty sure I installed the other after I noticed the issue, but maybe I'm wrong. Hopefully the card is boosting properly. It seemed to be working in the store. I'll let you know.

So I'm just recording a few videos. Not sure if you guys can see whats really going on. As it doesn't really show the issue to its fullest. Looking back, the recording would have to be at a higher refresh rate for you to notice it. I'll hopefully get them done tonight, or at least one. I did notice that while playing BF1, my GPU reaches around 86% load and no higher. Clock speeds seem to be fine.

What is the best way to upload videos here? It's too big for this site and tiny pic didn't work.

youtube and link.

try uninstalling asus tweak and msi afterburner and install evga precision xoc. use it's  monitoring and post back a shot of it.

your msi screenshot where you said you had played bf1 showed your max clock as like 695 which is not right.

The videos aren't really showing it as it is most noticeable when the frame rate is higher. It's like things are shaking.

Did it and still nothing. Doesn't look like it's affecting it. I also ended up reinstalling Windows. Multiple times.Tried 8.1 again. Tried 10. Still the same thing. I'll list a few other things I've noticed. When I start games up again after a reinstall, they are choosing the lowest settings automatically (When I say games I mean Warhammer End Times: Vermitide so far). Like a notification that says, we've chosen lowest setting for you. With my 780 ti, they were always set to high or ultra automatically. I've also noticed that my system seems a lot louder overall (not the GPU fans, as they are off without heavy gaming) during normal use with the 1080ti. A constant flow. With the 780 ti I never had this problem. It was quiet for the most part and when I put it back in, it still is. I'm trying to give you guys all the info I can think of. There has to be something wrong here. Something I'm missing. An incompatibility. A bottleneck. A component under-performing. A brain tumor. Something. Were there any new integrations of technology/software or settings with the 1080 ti vs the 780 ti?

I know this is a little old now. Hopefully you've fixed it. If not make sure intel turbo boost max technology is disabled.

I finally got caught up with work and went to play a game and I had mad stutters on my 1080. Tried everything reinstalling windows, turning off applications. Then noticing the new icon I didn't know in the bottom right I disabled intel turbo boost and everything was smooth.

Couldn't actually find that anywhere on my system. It looks to be only included with certain CPU's. So it looks like I'm still stuck here.

This sounds like an issue I ran into with the ROG Swift PG278Q. It starting having some real issues running at 144hz. It looked as if letters, icon on the desktop were vibrating, Games looked downright scary. I dropped the refresh down to 120hz and all was well for like an hour. Then the issue crept up again. Tried the monitor on my brothers rig and it had the same issue. Replaced with Acer Predator XB271HU, and I couldn't be happier. Although sadly that wouldn't explain why your old card works.

Do you have any videos/pictures of what you encountered? Did Asus ever mention what they thought it was?

In any games that show what gpu you are using like skyrim or fallout 4 (in settings menu). Really anything that lists the display adaptor. What is it saying? Does it show as a 1080ti? Sounds like games are not noticing your device. Also have you got your new monitor yet?

That might be your monitor going out. I had a friend with an RX480 that looked more chopped than some salads. Turned out his monitor was going to shit.

Might be the cable then? Have you tried that? Never had an issue like that. It really is weird. I might almost want to try to get it RMA'd

Tried many different cables. Both different DP and different DVI.

At this point if you can't try the card in another system. I would replace the card. Seems like you have tried all I can think of.....

Okay, so I have an update. I took my rig into NCIX for them to take a look. Left it there for a few days. They were unable to see anything to what I was describing unfortunately. Although, we noticed that my RAM speed had been set to lower than it was supposed to be set at in the bios. Maybe a power failure or something, idk. We set it back to XMP and upon boot up after the change, things seemed a lot smoother and faster. Not sure if it is gone or not but I think that has helped a bit.

Now I'm facing stuttering issues in all of my games. Massive stutter. As well, textures are seeming to pop in more frequently. I did start to notice this before I brought it in. Any ideas on this?

Just give up tbh. Try and have it replaced. Honestly I have never seen anybody go through so much just to get so much failure.

Well I would have to get NCIX to agree that the card has a defect.

You ever had any issues on your previous card? And if you have a friend with either a 1080 or 1080 Ti, convince them to trade them for a few, just to see if it is the GPU or not. If not, I might almost point it to the CPU, or the MoBo.

I never had any issues with the 780 ti. And no friends to do that with so I'm on my own here.

Can you just return it? I don't know NCIX return policy. But I know Micro Center has a 30 day return policy, and they take anything I buy back with no questions asked.
