Why aren't PC touchscreens more common ?

Si3Rra_7

It seems to me like a great technology. I wanted to buy a 24inch touchscreen monitor so i can control my second PC without having to have 2 mice and keyboards or extra software and to alt tab from the game im streaming to change a song or smth. But when i checked my local pc shop 95% of touchacreen monitors were out of stock and the only one left was an overpriced 23inch lg monitor at $450. Are they just not selling well ?

Extending an arm to interact with a monitor is not comfortable. I'm also not arm's length distance from my monitor, so I would constantly lean forward.

They're physically much, much closer to the user.

I rarely ever use the touchscreen on my laptop because the glossy screen necessary for touch gets so smudged during use, so imagine that on a desktop monitor.

Plus, it's super awkward to reach that far towards a monitor imo

Why touchscreen when you have keyboard?

It's uncomfortable, and makes your screen dirty as well.

That's horrible, imagine having to hold your arm up for hours at a time just to do anything...

And getting your screen full of oils...

Literally anything else is a better idea.

Use a KVM switch or synergy or use one PC with multiple monitors instead of multiple PCs.

i personally found touchscreen laptop annoying, its very impractical just uses more power.

I find them useful, but I work in education. For almost anything else that isn't using them for an adhoc graphics tab, I do find them useless.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

As said ergonomics mainly and user interaction, laptops work well as they are so close to the user. Also most large touch screen monitors aren't very accurate or good for say art/stylus use, unless they are something design for art or such like Wacom's tablet screen which are a different market.

Touchscreens are less efficient and way less comfortable in prolonged use.

Two main reasons.

-It is not very ergonomic.

And most importantly HDMI or displayport can't relay touch (I think)

Because they're 1) more expensive 2) all capacitive ones are glossy (ewwwww) 3) software on computers is not designed for them.

I've used the Slate Raven multitouch controllers (basically a multitouch HD monitor) and found it rather enjoyable. Now, these would be set up in a way that's more akin to a mixer or some other peripheral and not a normal monitor.

For my everyday computing I'd rather use a K/M setup though.

Yeah I have experience with a HP touch and you can't really see the screen if your hands on it. However Surface pro is touch no? Also think about the DS and WiiU using a stylus like some of those pocket computers before they kind of were outdated by smart phones. there are keyboards you can buy with a mouse track pad that you can use as if it was like a laptop all in one with the Keyboard. Also I have used a Bamboo Drawing pad for Photo shop. the Pen you use can detect without touching, but there is no screen on the pad. It can do pressure quite well, and even has buttons on the pen.

What others said... touchscreen makes most sense in mobile situations where a keyboard and mouse is not a practical alternative. When they are, most people will opt to use one (instead of a touchscreen). That doesn't mean your use case would not benefit from one, but if you are in a small minority, manufacturers are probably not going to do it.
