I stopped using vendor drivers with Windows 10

I just had a realization the other day that I no longer used vendor drivers when I re-installed windows 10. Not 100% but the only drivers I had to install were Soundblasfer for my sound card, AmBx for my gaming lights, - and even Nvidias driver somehow was getting installed when I would re-install the OS.

 

I even run a RAID0 for my boot drive and never had to install Intel IRST drivers at installation time.

 

just curious if other people noticed the same?

Microsoft automatically checks for drivers online (according to your hardware) 

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700  

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX  

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz

Windows has gotten really good with drivers for most devices. They've been tested by Microsoft and I wouldn't recommend replacing them if your system works well.

Apart from GPU drivers. They get loads of updates, mainly to improve game performance and it is a good idea to download the latest version from Nvidia/AMD directly.

Windows (especially 10) includes a lot of great drivers these days. My laptop, for example, has working Bluetooth out of the box on Win10, but I can't find the driver online manually. But I wouldn't go with the included GPU driver. They may work, but you won't get the updates you'll want.

win10 finally caught up with what linux has mastered a few years ago: installing ALL the necessary drivers for the components in your system without you needing a stack of driver disks because you dont have ethernet drivers either.
