GTX 1080 + Motherboard?

Finup

Hello, currently my setup is decently nice.

But I am looking to upgrade from the GTX 970 -> GTX 1080 and I have a few questions.

1. My motherboard is the "MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards H97 GAMING 3" and wanted to know if it was compatible with it?

2. Which GTX 1080 is right to buy... Looking around the $500 price range.

ddr3 is kinda outdated, move to ddr4 but you would have to change the cpu and mobo

1. Yes it is compatible with it.

2. The EVGA and Gigabyte varients are your options for under $500.

Wut???

A) ddr3 is totally fine

B) why did you bring up new mobo + CPU + RAM on topic about GPU?

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Great GPU but out of budget.  If I had the extra chunk of money I'd get one of these

EVGA has a legendary customer support and great cards all around, and I've been using gigabyte cards for the 2 last generations, no issue whatsoever. Though my GTX 1080 G1 Gaming has huge coil whine, but I never hear it when my case is closed (It took me 2 months to notice)

EVGA on the other hand had problem with their ACX3 cooler, that they have somewhat fixed, but if something happens you will be covered by their warranty
