2 Dual Channel RAMs, different size

Would it be okay to combine two pairs dual channel RAM sticks together?

I currently have the 8gb version of https://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-FURY-DDR3-Memory-Module/dp/B00J8E90I2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1492712817&sr=8-4&keywords=1866+ram.

So I currently have 2 4gb sticks.

I want to combine it with the 16gb version.

So I want to add 2 8gb sticks on top of that.

So in total I would have 2 4gb and 2 8gb RAMs. They would obviously be the exact same model but just in different sizes. Would this cause problems?

You can combine different RAM sizes, it works just fine.

Depends on how your motherboard is set by the bios. In some cases, it will reduce the size of the larger RAM for quad channel and use the rest with dual channel. that is 4GB from all sticks as quad channel. the rest from 8GB sticks as dual channel. Use of quad channel memory is prioritized in this case

Otherwise it will run 2 dual channels on DIMM1 and 2, 3 and 4. This is more common on old boards.

The worst will be failing to POST... but is unlikely. Even the cheapest and oldest boards should switch to single channel when it doesn't know how to handle stuff.

Unless he is running an X79 board then it is unlikely he will have a quad channel memory controller.
