Thank you

For 500 USD I would probably buy this one :

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824011057&cm_re=1440p_144hz_gsync-_-24-011-057-_-Product

But there might be better pick, just a quick look on newegg i found this one 1440p 144hz 1ms g sync

All that you want for gaming : 144hz 1 ms

The Dell you picked is probably the best one, 1440p 165 hz g sync can't be beat for cheaper. You can't even find 144 hz 1440p g sync ones for cheaper.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I was doing about the same (see my "adventure") - basically, you have to decide which of these are more important for you:

  • 27"
  • 1440p
  • 144Hz
  • IPS
  • G-Sync

For $500 I think you can find a monitor that has 3-4 out of 5 of these :D

You don't need 1ms gtg for gaming. 5ms is perfectly fine unless you're actuality Superman or have his vision.

The placebo effect and power of suggestion is strong. But, no. They won't.

Sadly not true. Design is great, but it does have color Banding issues (which have all of them with those specs).

Dell has a great design for the Desk, and color image quality, but you HAVE to use the Nvidia gamma settings, to correct the Gamma. it's way too off to look decent, and the Banding gets stronger with this.

Big problem: No Gamma control in the Monitor itself (and pretty much the worst OSD you can find).

The Acer looks more "gam0r" like.. sad. But it has a MUCH better OSD. Better buttons/navigation, and features. One of them beeing Gamma control. Set it to 2.5 or "Game", and you won't need the Gamma setting in the Nvidia Driver.

Bonus: the Color Banding gets weaker with this, instead of stronger.

Worth to mention, it does have a slight grainy coating, but you get used to it.

When it comes to the Color Banding, the Dell is the WORST of all 24" 1440p / 165 Hz G-Sync screens. Because it has no Gamma control in OSD.

Acer > Dell here, hands down. Except the Dell costs much less.

I had both. The Dell for 5 weeks, then i switcher over to the Acer, and sold the Dell.

Edit: Yep, 1ms vs. 4ms with IPS... not a dealbreaker. Most people won't even notice.

But: There is no IPS Panel out there with these specs (1440p, 144+ Hz, G-Sync/Freesync) without HORRIBLIE quality control. Every manufacturer (Asus, Acer, AOC, Viewsonic, even Eizo) use the almost same AHVA Au-Optronics IPS panel, which suffers from quality issues. Strong Backlightbleeding, dead pixels, clouding/glow, etc etc. There are more than enough, who literaly order 5+ units, and send everyone back because not a single one of them is "without flaw".

This will be a lottery, if your standards are somewhat high there. Or you might get Lucky ^^

But then again, you will pay 700-800 bucks, instead 400-500.

I had the AOC version of that IPS G-Sync monitor, and i send it back due to backlightbleeding in the corners.

Now i'm more happy with a TN (Acer XB241YU)

Doesnt make you right either.

Theres a difference between 2 ms and 5 ms and it is noticeable otherwise people wudnt buy 2 ms monitors..

for instance I have friends that says 30 fps or 60 fps doesnt make a difference :P

Some people can't notice things some can

Ever thought of people buying 2ms because they THINK it does make a difference?

I mean, there are enough idiots, who buy GAMING headsets (Razer Kraken, Roccat Kave, Logitech G35/933/etc, and models like that), because they think it's the best for GAMING. While the product itself is actually Crap. Bad sound quality, bad for gaming, bad for anything, bad build quality, bad microphone.

So, why do people buy them? Marketing.

If they didn't do any Blind test, any assumption is pretty worthless ;)

I want to see a good margin actually see the difference in a neutral blind test, and that better be more than a few exceptions (like the hardcore pro LCS players or something like that) out of 1000 people testing.

I honestly doubt, any "normal" gamer would be able to tell any difference. Maybe if he trains to just perceive that. But he first has to know what exactly he's looking for...

Other than that... 1ms or 5ms is worthless of it's own. this is only the Pixel response time on the spec sheet (if it's correct by measuring, is a whole different story), and the signal processing time is missing.

Asus has a high end TN panel with 1ms on spec sheet. By measuring total input Lag, it has 4-5 ms.

The IPS version has 4ms on spec sheet. By measuring total input Lag, it has 3,1 ms~ (tftcentral. Those 2 27" 1440p, 144+ Hz, G-Sync models)
