Swapping old mobo+CPU for a new one

So my LGA 1155 mobo died on me and im looking on upgrading to LGA 1150 and was wondering if i needed to install fresh windows to my old HDD or can i just swap the modo and CPU and install fresh drivers.

Which version of Windows are you running? Also: Don't upgrade to LGA1150 unless you can get it at a bargain. Go for 1151 instead. Haswell is 2 generations old by now and investing in that old of a platform isn't really a good idea.

I will reccomend you to go on LGA 1151 (Skylake) and you will have to reinstall Windows :|

No you cant since the motherboard has a unique id that the os is only accesing and using it as a secure key
