Upgrading GTX 970 to a RX 580

Cold Touch
Go to solution Solved by ybriK,

It's not a huge upgrade, but hey feel free to burn money if you want 15%-20% more performance.

Hi. I was wondering is it worth upgrading from a GTX 970 4gb to the new RX 580?

I'm currently running three monitors and sometimes i feel that the 970, strangly enough, can't handle it.

If you're staying on 1080p60hz I don't think this upgrade is all that needed... the RX580 is like 15% faster than the GTX 970... that is still a small improve in fps to justify the hassle in my opinion.

then is enough no need to upgrade.. if u want to upgrade get something like 1070 instead it will give u more noticeable performance.

Common misconception. The 1070 isn't that much faster than a 580. But it is faster.

Watch the new Vid from LTT. The 1070 holds a sizable lead and the best price/dollar but the 580 is literally in 2nd place and the performance difference isn't as big as you probably think it is.

I've watched it 1070 has 30+ more fps then 580 on overall.. its a big gap between those 2 cards

Well a 970 is still a powerful card, the 1070 is only a generation above the 970. The 1070 would make more sense as it is more powerful. But budget should also be ket in mind.

sounds about right. Probably more towards the middle there. Wasn't paying that much attention in the benchmarks xD

Bruh, I'm in the same boat, same setup, my monitor is freesync, and the 970 drops frames and only gets around 100-110 in siege

its just obvious that 1070 is more powerful.

Here's Ashes of the Singularity in DirectX 12. It doesn't get more AMD-friendly than this:

Sure, the 580 is in "second place," but that's more than a 25% gap. That's bigger than any other two cards up there. And the difference is only wider in most other games. You could fit a whole new card in between those two.

Think you are ignoring the price of the two cards. The 580 is about half the price.
