Mobo: X99 Deluxe

Cooler: Dark Rock Pro 3

RAM: 32GB DDR4
GPU: GTX 1080

Storage: 1TB 850 Evo, 1TB HDD, bunch of external hard drives
PSU: EVGA G2 750w

Laptop:

-Overkill Dell XPS

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

In Us it's not only that manufacturer that needs to make an update but carrier has to push it too? That's bullshit like it's rare.

Nuggets? Did google do a name change or something? What did I miss?

Samsung are kind of slow with their software updates and usually break things, That's 1 thing I really hate with them

What is with US carriers tampering with software updates? Shouldn't they just focus on their network like maintaining 4G LTE and rolling out 5G and let the OEM handle the software.

Say all the hate you want to Apple but they basically said "Screw your US carriers! Let us handle the software or you'll never have our popular phone in your stores".

There is more that meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I don't know about you but there might be difference between a third party rom and a official carrier update.

Jesus Christ, Samsung. By the time you finally do 7.1, I'll be on Android 8.

Edit: it's also easy to spot Apple fanboys and people who don't know how carrier updates work. GF has the Pixel on Verizon and have been on 7.1 for awhile now. Samsung's just hella slow.

You're right in that it's not directly Google's fault, but Google should still require manufacturers/carriers to release updates in a timely fashion.

The problem is that in the Android ecosystem, a phone is only relevant for a year. After that, you're probably lucky to even get a security update. And it doesn't help that LG and Samsung have like a half-dozen to a dozen phones every year.

Maybe they should reduce the number of models they produce.

Yeah, well, that's my biggest problem with Android. If you want updates and you don't want to be rooting, then you're going to have to live without updates.

It would definitely help to have product lines more streamlined, but presumably Samsung/et all. have done the marketing research to know that flooding the low end market is a strong strategy.

And by comparison with Apple devices you get forced obsolescence THROUGH updates. Pick your poison I guess.

I don't see it as being forced obsolescence. My 5s runs iOS 10 just fine, and if I didn't want to install iOS 10, then I could simply choose not to install it.

They have been doing significantly better with iOS 10 and 9. Look at the iPhone 5 and iPad 4 on iOS 10. On the other hand Samsung have gives you no updates plus a bloated UI for you to enjoy!

It's the same with Android, only the period is shorter.

My 2013 Moto X is still on Lollipop and there's no official support for anything after that. Yet the iPhone 5c got iOS 10 last year.

I will call BS on this one. As far as Apple software updates are concerned, there is no such thing as planned obsolescence; it does not exist, period. What people are seeing as "planned obsolescence" is the instinctual comparisons to the latest model(s). My iPhone 4S on iOS 9 is by no means as fast as the iPhone 6S or 7 on iOS 10, but it is as smooth and snappy as the day I bought it. Another thing to consider is that each major iOS release, corresponding to a new model, is optimized specifically for that model. That is not planned obsolescence, that is iteration. With the way the Apple "walled garden" works, keeping the older devices up to date is easy (Android is a nightmare, with comically inconsistent specs across one family). However, with the hardware limitations of the previous models, some compromises have to be made with the operating system as a whole. Often times, it is not until a specific model drops out of the update cycle, where iOS takes full advantage of the features of the next model. There is A LOT of "legacy" code in any given Apple operating system.

Read the community standards; it's like a guide on how to not be a moron.
