They also claim there will be a 2070Ti along with a 2080Ti which makes no sense to me but.shrug

Calling BS on this now btw.

Releasing sooner isnt how you make money....if nobody is buying then releasing more isnt going to fix the problem. I would love to see them shoot themselves in the foot some more though.

depends on Vega. AMD indicated recently that they are targeting upto titan xp performance range with vega. That is motivation for Nvidia to launch Volta.

Below from an interview that Tom's hardware conducted

QUESTION : I know you won't be able to say much, but how does Vega compare to the GTX 1080ti and the Titan XP?

ANSWER : Vega performance compared to the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti and the Titan Xp looks really nice.

From AMD's DON WOLIGROSKI.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-ama,5018-11.html

If AMD falls just short of their performance targets and Titan XP is still a bit faster then Nvidia will be comfortable. But if it matches or slightly beats Nvidia then they have motivation to launch Volta faster.

It's not Nvidia saying it's the 20 series, it's a bunch of idiots on the internet that can't count very well.

Didn't Pascal just get refreshed with faster memory? I doubt they would have done that if Volta is planned for a release this year.

Well, there certainly hasn't been a price-war on Nvidia's unrestrained Pascal prices, and unless I'm reading this wrong, it looks to me like Nvidia's GPU profits for fiscal year 2017 were the largest they've ever had, and also the largest growth they've ever had in a year (up 216% and 137% in net income)... so yeah, at least that part is BS.

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

This whole thing just reeks of BS. Reminds me of that X80, X80 Ti and X80 Titan "leak" from last year.

They can't release a product to compete with AMD unless AMD releases theirs first. Nvidia would have to be lead by monkeys to release a potential dud just to get to market first. Nvidia has a lot to lose if they fuck up Volta.

As everyone has said, its BS and won't be happening. No point in trying to defend or refute a potential Nvidia misplay.

I don't think anybody suggested they will launch before Vega, which is expected next month or start of June. My gut feeling is NVidia will take stock after that and decide whether to expedite Volta.

OMG, how can you not believe this? It is obvious that NVIDIA will launch Volta one day once AMD comes out with Vega, how can you be so blind towards such a undoubtful fact? I am also sure that once NVIDIA responds to Vega with Volta then AMD will respond with Navi one day as well.
