PCIE Link Speed 2.5 GT/s [GTX 980]

Guest

I have a GTX 980 with a ASUS Z97 motherboard and for some reason my PCIE Link Speed is showing as 2.5 GT/s in HWinfo - shouldn't it be 5.0 GT/s?

2.5 GT/s = PCIe 1.0

5.0 GT/s = PCIe 2.0

8.0 GT/s = PCIe 3.0

It should adjust dynamically based on how much load the PCIe bus is under. It will go down when not in use to save power.

Yeah, it's is in PCIE 3.0. Should I change the speed to [gen3] in BIOS? The max I've seen it go is 4.7, and that was in the Firestrike test.

Don't worry about it, if it needs more bandwidth it will go up. Keep in mind it may not need to go up even under 100% gaming load, gaming isn't particularly heavy on PCIe usage.

Okay, cool. Just got concerned - a guy on the Nvidia forums told me it was set "incorrectly".
