Do you use stock fans?

When you build a new system do you automatically buy aftermarket fans? What for? (case cooling or CPU cooling?)

 

Which fans are your "go-to" ones and why?

Well.. technically when you build a new system, you have to go aftermarket unless the included case fan (if there even is one) is all you're going to use. In terms of the CPU cooler, if it's a system that can't even be overclocked, I just stick to the stock cooler for simplicity. Modern CPUs are so efficient, that the stock cooler is enough to cool it quietly.

I thought a fan was a fan and all were created about equal. Then I picked up some noctua fans and everything I knew was flipped.

Depends on the case you're buying, some cases come with fans others are just simply shells. You can use the stock fans or you can purchase fans which offer more features such as RGB, lower noise level, higher RPM, etc. The CPU should either be cooled by an air cooler or aio cooler, I wouldn't advise using the stock cooler which comes with some CPUs such as the Intel I5. With the GPU they normally come with fans which are already built into the component. In addition, if you want the best performance try and stick with positive air flow.

Cpu? Absolutely with intel (when they include one at least), the paper weight that they ship as their stock cooler is just garbage and put to shame by the new wraith coolers...

 

Case? Depends. If you buy a high end case they sometimes come with a few decent intake and an exhaust fan of decent quality. Otherwise yeah you'll need to buy some as many come with exhaust only :P This is bad because it results in negative pressure and not much airflow (due to lack of fresh air intake)

Depends on case. If it has enough fans, then no. Currently I have extra fans anyway, so I'd have no need. But in general I'm aiming for 2 in, 1 out setups and most cases only come with 2 fans. So 1 more is required. As for noise reasons, maybe later if needed. I'm happy with current config (U14S is already with dual-A15 config from last case so...).
