Intel 300 series chipset

NumLock21

Some info about Intel's next mainstream chipset, has been revealed. The leaked slide, shows it's exactly the same as their 200 series, with the difference is native support for USB 3.1 Gen2 and integreated wireless AC. The new chipset will continue to tun on socket 1151 and it will be accompanied with a new cpu. If all goes to plan, we should see it around Q4 2017.

There is 0 reason for this chipset to even exist.

At least with 200 series, theres intel Octane.

Those are the two main things people have been speculating for months now.

Very likely to be true, but I seriously doubt how legitimate this 'leaked slide' really is. Especially coming from Benchlife...

Does you mum know you're here?

Yeah it does, but just like with the previous chipset, the increments are merely sugar icing that goes on a new chip refresh launch.

Just like the performance increments.

I really hope that the new cannonlake doesn't break compatibility with 100series chipsets.

Upgrading to cannonlake is a waste from skylake.

They are with kabylake s and skylake s. The other is coffee lake s, which will be part of the 300 series chipset. It might also be the first 6 core for mainstream. The slide and info, don't seem to make sense though, cause it says canonlake and has no info with coffeelake.

So hardly any difference whatsoever, but enough to force  you to buy a new motherboard, if you get the newest Intel CPU?

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

Slap a black or white logo of each company on the proper board and you're fine. I mean or just know Intel is LGA and AMD is PGA.

Unless it's like a Core i3 or Pentium.

Don't think they'll force it. At least they haven't for the past generations.

It's enough that they change sockets often. This is just a new chipset where you can be assured of compatibility without worrying about BIOS updates.

And that's why putting a black or white AMD and Intel logo on the proper board wouldnt be such a bad idea.

TBH it's AMD's fault for naming their chipsets X370 and B350 when they know that intel will have a Z370 and B350 coming.

with cannon lake, intel better not release any quad cores higher than a i5-8500, i5-8600 and higher needs to at least be hexacore, with maybe a i7-8800 on the 1151 platform as a octacore, as at least then intel could have something which could go head to head with a R7-1800x both for the same price and on the productivity front, instead of just gaming.

Intel i5-6600K@4.2GHz, 16GB Crucial DDR4-2133, Gigabyte Z170X-UD3, Be quiet shadow rock slim, Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC, Fractal design Integra M 550W, NZXT S340, Sandisk X110 128GB, WD black 750GB, Seagate momentus 160GB, HGST 160GB

Not gonna happen. They plan on releasing quad cores for x299.

can intel for the love of all that is holy, stop screwing their customers, as intel has screwed the mainstream platform with quad cores for 10 bloody years.

No. As long as people buy their stuff and support their business strategy, they will continue their path. If consumers wants change, they have to support the competition.
