Windows 10.0 released in 2015 will no longer be supported

AlTech

Microsoft has decided that it will discontinue support for Windows 10 Build 10240 aka version 1507.

This lack of support means that security and bug fixes will not be provided by Microsoft.\

If you wish to continue to remain supported you can choose to update.

Microsoft has stated that support will be discontinued on May 9th 2017.

The currently supported Builds after May 9th are:

Windows 10 Build 10586

Windows 10 Build 14393

Windows 10 Build 15063

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build

Quote

With Windows 10, we introduced a new model whereby we release feature updates a few times a year, rather than holding back features for a new release every 2-3 years as in the past. In doing so, it's important that our customers stay current by installing feature updates as they are released.

IDK about others people but speaking from a developer perspective, if Microsoft discontinues support then pretty much any developer worth their salt will follow suite.

Uh, I'm pretty sure you the only way you can still be on such an old update is if you somehow modified your registry to block updates or something, because they are mandatory.

So for all the people who use windows 10 normally and update it when it needs to, this is a non-issue.

You might want to consider re-enabling them. In Build 15063, they've improved update options and behavior so it's not annoying.

Some programs like Start10 that I use doesn't work on later updates. At least at the time I updated it.

Just tweak it to be like the so called "win 9,5" and you don't even really feel any change between updates, mine updates whenever it has to and I feel my computer is the same from way back first boot, because I already have all my own default programs and settings and themes etc... So I really don't understand why not just update it and get the stability enhances.

Iirc MS said before Windows 10 launch that builds would most likely expire 2 major releases out or 1 year. This just confirms it.

In this case, Build 10240 was released 2 years ago.

Nobody else seems to have picked up on this in LTT (partially cos none of them are UWP developers and partially cos most avoid UWP) but by the end of year, Developers will be able to force Windows Store app updates to everybody if Build 10586 is discontinued in November or so.

Yeah but if you have pro, the chances are you won't need to disable the tracking since most of the obnoxious ones are able to be disabled.

App Developers for UWP are able to force app updates on users of Windows 10 Build 14393 or newer.

This means that if a developer finds a critical bug then they can immediately push an update and guarantee that everybody using the app will have the essential update.

It's not meant to be used for anything other than bug fix updates, security updates or critical fixes.

Yes, but we're talking about people that suddenly wanted to install Windows 7 and 8, operating systems no longer sold by OEMs or retail, on Kaby and Ryzen, just because Microsoft isn't allowing unvalidated updates on those platforms.

Not exactly.  If you're running Pro/Edu/Ent, you can disable updates through GPEdit, or at least set them to manual.
