Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 Ti AMP Extreme VS Gigabyte AORUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition Power Phases?

Hiho,

 

I'm wanting to buy one of these, but ZOTAC one apparently has 16+2 power phases VS 12+2 on Gigabyte one. Does it matter in the end? Which one would be a better pick, price is the same for both.

I've only seen review for both of these, so I'll stick to either ZOTAC or Gigabyte one. This doesn't answer my question at all, it's like you answered someone else's question on my thread.

p/s: your psu is 1000w right?

more power phases doenst mean it will have better stability. the quality of each power phase matters also. bottom lines is that its hard to make a clear determination on which one would be more stable ocing.

Yes it is. I just want to pick best 1080 TI there is since I'm paying £800 for it.

i would say this is an oversimplification because if you have a bunch of crap pahses it doesnt matter if you have 20 of them they wont be as stable as less phases than aren't crap. you are much better off looking at a review and what type of performance they are getting or even better look at pcb breakdown and look at what type of power phases each one uses.

IMO he said that if you want the best VRMs you can get on an 1080Ti, then get the Strix one.

 

Since VRMs only matter if you're doing heavy overclocking, then decide whether you'll be pushing the card to its limits or not. If not, get the one with a quieter cooler, if yes, get the one with the best VRMs (ASUS Strix in this case).

It doesn't matter at all, pick the cheaper card. The only advantage with so many power phases is only if you OC under LN2... even then that is questionable if it will benefit you in any meaningful way.

They all have overkill PCB components for air/water OC.

To be fair. TechCity managed to push his AORUS 1080 TI EXTREME ED. to 2120 so I'm not sure which one to take. None of them are available, so I have to wait for them to be in stock, but I'm trying to decide now.

This doesn't prove anything, sillicon lottery means that every sample will overclock differently at different voltages.

Definitely not. I was running 780 TI SLI OC on this and they eat more power.

Obviously, but I like to pick my chances with the best card, and since I haven't seen any other decent reviews then the AORUS one seems to be most compelling.

 

I know that power target of it goes to 150% etc. I know nothing about the other ones.

both cards are good cards. just pick the one that appeals to you more because at the end of the day the difference between after market cards like those two aren't going to be that extreme anyways.

You're wrong. 850W is easily enough to support two 1080Tis in SLI. Along with the rest of the system.

In all honesty, I'd recommend you get an EVGA FTW one if you want to overclock. It has a great cooler and a good PCB layout, EVGA is also MUCH better than Gigabyte in terms of customer support, RMA requests etc.

Can't get EVGA one. Not available in UK Amazon, and I have to get it through Amazon 'cause I have £800 gift card to use.

Then I'd try to get the best available MSI card as their customer support is almost as good as EVGAs. People are generally unhappy in that regard with both ASUS and Gigabyte.

I'd look for the MSI GTX 1080Ti Gaming X. It has a beefier, enhanced variant of the (excellent) Twin Frozr VI cooler with customizable RGB LEDs on it.
