Yes. Of course.

 

Since you have an R9 285 it is especially well supported (gcn 1.2). You don't have to install any additional drivers, the default MESA open source drivers which you get will give you good gaming performance and even vulkan support. Enjoy...

 

If you want to make sure you always stay on the latest graphics drivers just open a terminal and enter the below two commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:paulo-miguel-dias/pkppa

sudo apt-get update

What that does is make sure you get the latest stable updates to the open source drivers rather than waiting for ubuntu to verify it and push it to you. This is important for gamers because performance is always being tweaked and fixes being done for newer games.

Basically the first command gives ubuntu the name of the software repository where it can download those newer drivers.

And the second command just says check for updates now.

Just FYI, but the indicator bugs aren't present in a fresh install of 17.04, not in the MATE desktop version anyway.
