loud stock CM haf evo XB II fans?

Lethalmonk

Hey,

I have the CM haf evo xb and it comes with 2 front XtraFlo fans. i have the CM 212 evo cpu cooler. This rig along with a rear fan seems to be pretty load at idle load (with tweaking to fan curves) and i do know it is a more open case but it is still pretty loud. are the Xtraflo fans really that much louder than noctua or etc?

what are some recomendations. also, is it worth to add large fan on top?

Adding a fan won't decrease noise. Your system is only as quiet as the loudest part.

What headers are you powering the fans off of?

Xtraflows aren't quiet and don't hold a candle to noctuas.

I am using the motherboard headers for the fans. i have 3 fans currently. *i was asking if i should replace the xtraflows and if i should add a top large fan for cooling*

Which headers for which fans? They should be labelled. Are they all too loud?

System fans 1-3. Yes all are. i made a reasonable fan curve.

What speed are they running at and what fan curve are you using? Have you tried lowering it?

Sorry for the late reply--pretty sick atm.

The motherboard provides decent voltage control so it seems you just don't find the fans quiet enough. If you want the system to be quieter, you'll have to replace them. An easy replacement that's very quiet would be PW2's: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/fkCwrH/be-quiet-case-fan-bl046

If the specs on your profile are accurate, a single rear exhaust and 1-2 front intakes would be plenty of cooling.

There aren't any great 200mm fans.

I'm not sure what fan you're referring to specifically but PW2's are quieter than anything Corsair has to offer.

AF120 QE's might perform a bit better but the difference wouldn't be huge.Either are easily quieter than the stock BladeMaster that comes with the 212 Evo already.

PW3's don't exist. If you're referring to SW3's, they're among the best of the best--not really worth going for unless you're on a mission to get your system very quiet and don't mind throwing the cash.

Both AF120 QE's and PW2's are quieter than the stock 212 Evo fan. If you're keeping the stock fan, it doesn't make much difference which you go with since your system is only as quiet as the loudest component.

@WoodenMarker How do the SW2 and the PW2 compare? thanks

They're pretty similar. SW2's are a bit better across the board.

will the pw2,sw2 or corsair af work as a cpu block cooler and case fan?

Any of them would work for the cpu cooler and as case fans. That being said, I don't see much of a reason to go with AF120's as they aren't nearly as quiet as PW2's or SW2's.

@WoodenMarker Last thing, Would it be worth it to get a SW3 as my exhaust or cpu fan and pw2 for the rest?

There's no point getting both models. Get the same fans for everything.

logic is that because fans on the CPU spin faster  a fan thats quieter at high speed will be quiter so it wont be as loud as a pw2

dont the cpu fans or exhaust fans spin at a faster rpm than front intake due to static and load?
