Why would they not use Xeons/Opterons then? :D

It could be a home server, or a server for a small business that's willing to sacrifice reliability for cost savings.

If the reference cooler is really getting an upgrade, props to AMD.  They're stepping up the stock cooler performance all around the board (pun intended).

Only question is why do they compare them with R9 3xx series? They probably know it's not an upgrade to RX series so they make the numbers look bigger :D

Yeah, same thing like nvidia comparing Titan Xp(the newest one, not the one we've named Titan XP, which was named titan X to begin with based on.......) with maxwell generation Titan X instead of Titan X pascal.

It makes it look funny in both cases.

Hue hue hue

ya, I want that 4+ core with SMT OC it to 4Ghz, with at least a RX 560 hoping for RX 570-580 amount of CU's and OC that too.

my dreams want to see a chip with HBM on die for the GPU so system memory doesn't have to be shared, and it removing the ram speed issue from APU's.

Shit.  Wow, yea "Dreams" is certainly the best word you could have chosen for a 4+ SMT core @4GHz /w RX580 iGPU using HBM.  We'll see, but I'd guess RX560 equivalent GPU perf would be as good as it'll get on their most gaming centric APU SKUs.  Don't see HBM being a thing any time soon for APUs, though I'd assume they'd benefit wildly if they had such on SOC memory.  I suspect hearing what something like that would cost the consumer today would be the sort of thing nightmares are made of.

The 4Ghz is a OC I want to hit with it being oil cooled. I think the top APU now is 12 CU see 16 is reasonable, 20 or more would be awesome.

Do you guys this they will also announce Vega SKU's too or will that be farther down the road?

I hope to hear news of Vega at this announcement too.

EDIT:

I also think the RX 550 is new beacuse of the non-gaming people that are planing to get a ryzen system will have a GPU and can deal with everyday tasks and 4k video on the cheap.

Vega is in May. They've been marketing Vega heavily with Prey 2 which also launches in May.

probably already have but just means you can pick up a RX4xx cheap, and overclock it to get RX5xx performance.

Those are much better clocks and are what the Rx 400 series should have launched with. Anyone with a GTR BE (moi), strix or Nitro+ 480 is already enjoying the performance the 500 series is bringing. At 1340 MHz, it's a bit faster than a 390x and has better overclocking headroom than a 390x.

Interesting to see a third gen 14nm FF process node used. Even higher clock rate support. Maybe these cards will be 1500hz standard? Now if VEGA is on this process node too. Oh man.

They remind me of my Sapphire Nitro RX 460 both in specs and cosmetics. I wonder how much more the RX 560 will perform, IIRC it looks like it will have 2 more CUs than mine.

I'm also curious how much less the RX 550 will perform. I didn't realize entry-level was going even lower. I wonder if that's the GPU that will be on Raven Ridge APUs.

The reference 570's 1244mhz is only a bit behind aftermarket RX 470's like my Red Devil (stock at 1270mhz, mine is running at 1370mhz), and a ~40MHz overclock compared to a reference 470.

But based on the fact that the 580 is clocked at 1340mhz stock, the  570 looks like it's clocked down quite a bit to reduce power consumption, and should be able to go a lot higher.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

So a bunch of AMD slides that are still under NDA have been leaked presumably from Korea have been found over here at Jisakutech

Well it isn't an article so there's not much to quote there but here goes anyway :P

Quote

AMD Radeon RX 500シリーズの概要がリーク

Translation:

Spoiler

Leak of AMD Radeon RX 500 series summary

Here's the bulk of the bunch -

(Sorry, can't post images using those particular links for some reason so I'll just link it here)

Group shot of RX 580 to RX 550

RX 580 spec slide

RX 580 8GB 1440p gaming benchmarks

A lot more slides can be seen here

A good thing to point out is that they're comparing relative performance of an RX 580 to a ...GTX 970 and an RX 380! Literally like what!?

Somewhat disappointing comparison just to show that the performance increase is huge, however it would still be nice to compare it to previous gen cards as this is always what should be done!

They'd better be sure Vega is more promising than this.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."
