In a new Hexus & Phys.org Article, Surrey Nanosystems has developed a refined version of their Vertically Aligned Nanotube Array Black (Vantablack).  The original vantablack was able to absorb approximately 99.96% of visible, ultraviolet and ifrared light that contacted it.  This new refinement though absorbs even more, so much to the point that it cannot be measured by a spectrometer.

The material is then applied as a coating to another object—light hitting the coating is absorbed because it is bounced around between the nanotubes instead of being reflected back. It is only by changing the angle of objects coated with the material that features are visible.

While the current applications may be extremely limited, especially with the delicacy of Vantablack vs the spray version, it is thought that this might be used to improve the performance of cameras and optical sensors, where reflected light can cause interference with capturing a better image quality.  Or, of course, you can always give it to Luke to line the inside of his next custom build.   Maybe have a pure light absorbing interior with RGB accent lights...

It'd be quite cool, as if they dented it, you wouldn't be able to see the dent, at all.

And this is how you drive someone insane.  Room painted to absorb all light and sound deadening walls with a single light bulb to see yourself but no reference point or just lose the light source and have no sense of sight or sound.

The same could be said for 100% chrome cars as they absolutely blind people while driving and after a 100 ft or so it almost invisible but they are not illegal. I am not sure why. Both are cool though!

there's a video of vantablack in lollipop form, and if you have a keen eye you can make out a very small subsection where light isn't completely absorbed. however it might be due to youtube's compression algorithm
