First AMD build since the Athlon64 X2

My current machine is an Intel 3570k @ 4.6GHz, 16GB of DDR3, 512GB 850 Pro SSD, and a GTX 1070.

 

The Power Supply, Video Card, and Storage will be reused in the new machine.

 

MSI X370 GAMING PRO CARBON AM4

AMD RYZEN 5 1600X 6-Core 3.6 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) Socket AM4

G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800)

Corsair Hydro Series H110i Extreme Performance AIO

 

 

This will all be dropped into a case that I won at an auction for 18 dollars.

 

So the new home for my new PC will be a Corsair Carbide 330R Titanium Edition, although the side panel is a windowed side panel... I don't think that is original.

Parts are arriving by COB on Thursday... I will have the weekend to build.

 

In a couple of weeks the last part will be ordered, an additional ZOTAC GTX 1070 AMP! Edition.

Just so you know, that MB doesn't support baseclock tweaks, only multiplier changes.

True, but for $130 dollars I dont think that there are any motherboards within the price range that does support bclk adjustments... at least not fine granular control. I picked that memory simply because I know that it is certified by both G.Skill and MSI to run at full 3200 speeds on this board.

Why get such an expensive board? You could easily get a cheaper x370 or b350 and spend the extra cache on an r7 1700

$130 isn't all that expensive for a decent board. Did I miss something?

Already have the motherboard, waiting on the other parts. The memory was FAR more expensive than the motherboard.

Did you make sure the kit works well with ryzen? I have a 2800mhz kit that can run at 2933 with 1.25v, yet it struggles to maintain 2666 on my ryzen chip.

According to MSI it is verified to 3200. It has the Samsung B-DIE chips, and is single sided... best thing for the Ryzen. Model number F4-3600C17D-16GTZ

I appreciate that, when I bought that PSU a couple of years ago, I checked on jonnyguru to ensure that it had been beaten on , and that it would stand up. It has been rock solid, even when running two R9 290 cards at one time... I am pretty sure that probably stressed it a bit.

Sometimes it is good to have friends that buy stuff without really looking at what they are buying. One of my idiot friends bought this motherboard to build an Intel system... I bought it off of him less what he would have paid for shipping etc. So, it was 130 for me. Same friend that I bought two R9 290x Gigabyte graphics cards from because he decided he wasnt going to bit coin mine... bought the cards from him for 200 each.

Quite a lot - computers are a bit of a hobby for him... and one that he doesnt pay close attention to. Fine with me as every time he screws up and orders a wrong part, or decides that a particular project is going to be too difficult.. I usually reap the rewards.
