New HDD now showing in BIOS?

Hi guys, I have a weird one here.

A friend of mine is currently building a new pc and I am guiding him through. PC runs and boots into the BIOS, but no matter what I've tried I cannot get the new HDD to show. From out of the box the HDD was making a "clicking" noise that would go away after roughly 5 mins.

Motherboard: ASUS B250-Prime

HDD: WD Blue WD10EZEX (This HDD is verified compatible with ASUS in the motherboard manual)

Here's what I have tried:

Alternate SATA port.

Alternate SATA cable.

Different SATA power connector on the same rail AND different connector on a different rail.

The motherboard only has SATA 6Gb/s ports (no 3Gb/s ports).

For the life of me, I cannot find the SATA "operation" settings in the BIOS, you know to change to AHCI mode.

Is the drive really DOA? :(

Thanks guys

A ticking noise out of the box?... Sounds like you bought a restock HDD, not a new one. Seems like someone scammed the seller by returning a fake/alternative drive, then they restocked the used/dead one.

Are you unable to see it in the OS?

This can happen at any time, which is why I recommend benchmarking a drive before using it for personal storage. Just get the RMA through your retailer.

Everything on this build is brand new, or what I believed to be brand new @IAmLamp.

All of the parts were also bought from Amazon.

@ARikozuM Was planning on installing the OS on this drive but it's not even showing in the BIOS, so we're stuck.

Some companies label used material as new even though it isn't. They call it restock material because customers return a product and then the sellers just put it back on the shelves until someone buys it.

Here's an example:

Definitely something to look out for/be aware of. It's a good idea to check and make sure that the products are completely brand new and to make sure by asking the seller/sellers if the product/products are restock material and if the product/products are completely unused.

Was there any break on the sealing or anything of that nature?

Are you using an NVMe drive in the build? Sometimes using an M.2 slot can effect some SATA ports on the board.
