...dual Hawaii XT graphics card

James_AJ

So... AMD strikes before Nvidia (I know a lot of you were waiting for 2x GK110)

Too much power? Or too much horsepower?

http://videocardz.com/47990/amd-radeon-vesuvius-two-hawaii-xt-gpus-making

(also, they'd better get Sapphire to help with their coolers... AMD's stock coolers stink)

P.S.: Are people incapable of reading? On the bottom of page it obviously says the picture's not real and it's just a placeholder...

Some specs:

5632 Whoppin' stream processors

352 TMUs

128 ROPs

probably 8GB GDDR5 512-bit RAM

For those commenting on the card's ability to cool the 2x Hawaii XT...

Just slap on the Sapphire Toxic or ASUS DCuII magic.

I doubt even two 8 pins could give it the required 500W TDP it needs to run.

1. Looks like a bad photoshop job. (Yes I know it says that's not the actual card but it's a poor concept of it)

2. Probably named Vesuvius because it'll melt and explode and cause your house to catch on fire.

3. Will probably have terrible cooling too.

Just my three thoughts :)

Yeah looks like a bad photoshop, plus you would not use blower style fans on a dual GPU card.

Look at what AMD did for the 7990. It was not bad at all

I doubt even two 8 pins could give it the required 500W TDP it needs to run.

A 8-pin can supply up to 150W and the PCI-E slot can provide 75W, so that would make 3x 8-pin for the power connectors.

Even if this was true, when I highly doubt it is, with the TDP being around 500w+ the card will not be able to be cooled adequately enough for the GPU's to semi survive, triple slot 12 inch long card still wouldn't be enough and even with a 3 fan design which you can only guess, the card would run into problems like the 7990 with suffocation on one of the GPU's and that was with dual 7970 GHz editions, there is no chance in this without moving to liquid cooling or a hybrid design.

I don't think people read the AMD Q&A but they did state there new cards NEED TO RUN WARM to get max speed out the chip. its just a different concept to cool and quiet. AMD let there cards heat up to gain max performance out of the chip and also keep it quiet (ish)

But i agree that card would need to be LC'd from factory haha

those fans on that card isn't going to end well unless its clocked at 500mhz. they are going to sound like three 290x's in uber mode. i hope they come with ear defenders.
