Switch from AMD fx 8370 to intel i7 3930k

Hey, i have an AMD FX 8370 right now.

I have seen a few things, and the Intel i7 3930k looks like a nice upgrade for a good price on ebay.

I used passmark, game debate, usermark and even CPUboss to compare these 2 cpus, and every single one of those

comparison sites said that the Intel i7 3930k totally blows away the fx 8370.

The only problem is that the 3930k uses the LGA 2011 slot, and lga 2011 motherboards are gonna

lighten my wallet quite a fair bit (I'm a lower budget gamer!). Also, the 8370 is fairly newer than the 3930k.

Should I upgrade or not?

The FX lineup at this point is just trash.

And since intel hasn't really done anything the past few years, I think it'd still be a pretty nice upgrade.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Just sayin but don't use comparison sites like CPUboss and userbenchmark. They're utter trash. Legitimate benchmarks are the way to go, though the 3930k is still much better.

As for motherboards, are you looking at 2011v3 mobos? The 3930k uses the older 2011 socket. Make sure you're looking at x79 motherboards, not x99 ones.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Well unless it's a really good deal, then consider if you really need the upgrade. It would be better to go to a new generation in like a year than blow all your cash now on an older platform

That's an F in the profile pic

IMHO go for something like:

- Ryzen 7 (even the 1700 whoops the fucking 3930k)

- Intel 5th/6th gen E series CPUs (eg 5960x, 5820k, etc) used, when x299 releases

idk

I have the 3930K and the FX-8350. Can confirm the 3930K blows it out of the water. In my experience the FX-8350 is more of a match with the i5-2500K when all 8 threads are used, and much worse than the 2500K when only a few cores are used.

At this point there are probably better options than the 3930K though, like the Ryzen 7 1700 with an AM4 motherboard. Depends on eBay prices of the 3930K though. You could also wait a few weeks for Ryzen 5 to release, they will be a bit better than the 3930K, for even less than the R7 chips, and you still get the benefits of a more modern platform.
