Too high frequency RAM

Hi,

I was so dumb... I didn't realise that my motherboard (Asus Z-270-A) supports only 2133 MHz memory, and I bought a dual channeled Corsair Vengeance Lpx (8+8 GB) that runs at 3000 MHz. I installed those to the memory slots. My motherboard didn't really detect it (only the half - 8GB). Should I refund the Vengeance memory? Or are there any settings that would make these work properly?

 

I'm a beginner at PC building, so be kind with me if I've made a really dumb mistake ;-)

 

Note: This motherboard supports memory overclocking up to 3800 MHz. (If that's important)

First, see if the Bios is the newest one, then if it is the freshest for your board, but doesn't recognize your Rams, try to hammer in the ram specs into the bios by hand. 

 

I had one case, where the bios read out the rams well, but put the voltage way low, making the system unstable and whacky. After manually configuring the ram settings provided by the manufacturer (sticker on the ram bars) all was well.

 

If this doesn't work out, yes, try to get a refund and get other rams, that are in the MB compatibility list. Or just grab ADATAs XPG =P I never went a wrong path with those. No matter which mainboard brand.

Make sure that the RAM is installed in the first and third slots if you're using dual-channel. To enable the higher speeds turn on whatever the RAM overclocking option for your motherboard is in BIOS (might be something like extreme memory profile or XMP) and it will probably activate the highest advertised RAM speed automatically. If it doesn't you can change the numbers manually or stick with 2133 mhz.

Well this wasn't the problem, I just rearranged them and they work fine now

Still, look at the manual to make sure that you put the ram in the right slots. There are specific slots your suppose to fill first.
