Screenshot Thread?

I'm curious to know if it would be cool to start an official screenshot thread for users to more visibly share their gaming experiences? I'm aware there's a gallery feature on this site, but it's not exactly an easily accessible or readily sorted feature. After all, with all the blood, sweat, and tears we put into our rigs, why not better share the fruit of our labor with others?

I think it would be cool, but why limit it to just gaming? I know a lot of people here are PC gamers, but it would also be cool to be able to post screenshots of things we use our computers for other than gaming such as graphic design, CAD, programming, animation, etc

That would be pretty cool. I was originally thinking to keep the proposed screenshot thread category (Video Game > PC Gaming) related. But if the mods could stretch the idea and expand it to its own category to appeal to an even broader audience, that would be legit.

That was the screenshot thread for a while. Though if the mods haven't stickied this one for years, we probably wouldn't get a stickied screenshot thread.

Gotcha. I figured that with a community as large as this one, there would already be one, but with it not being readily visible I didn't want to be presumptuous and start a new one outright. Kinda silly such a large thread isn't stickied though. Thank you for pointing it out.

The moderators of almost any forum will sticky threads for usefulness rather than popularity.

Yea I kinda agree. But I can see why there isn't a need for it to be stickied. Though, if you are posting screenshots, do post it there and keep in on the front page.

I have seen some really nicely captured screenshots there.

Post your "X" threads, user benchmark threads, the chitchat thread, (edit) club threads. Just go to each category. Practically every other category here has at least one non-useful yet popular thread stickied.

Each of the ones I see are useful. The only one that I would question would be the "Rate the Picture Above You" and the "100 Line Challenge".

I disagree.

 

Show off your setup, off topic chitchat, mechanical keyboard club, water cooling gallery, network layout showoff, internet speedtest, post your home theater, and the rate the photo above you thread are all stickied threads that are useless on a technical standpoint. Each of those threads serve only to share content, which is the purpose of the screenshot thread.

 

The post your benchmark threads, while potentially useful for reference purposes, still functions primarily for people to share their experiences.

They all serve a purpose in their respective sub-forums. Network Layout does serve a purpose though not so much these days. Post your home theater gives newbies something to look for in their own projects as can be said for the build logs and water cooling gallery. Photo rating and the 100-line are the only ones that are useless from a technical standpoint since they don't actually help anyone gather useful info.

The same logic applies to the screenshot thread.

 

Settings used, mods used, hardware used, and overclocks used are all elements that can be gathered, which serves a functional purpose for others to obtain or recreate a desired look or feel of a game.

I thought you just wanted to share screenshots? If you're able to get posters to follow a certain format, I wouldn't see why it can't be stickied if it follows the format for a length of time.

You commented that share your setup threads give people something to look for. None of those threads have a specific guideline. All they do is post pics of their setup and reply to inquiries. All of that is already occurring in the screenshot thread. There is no objective functional difference between setup picture threads and game picture threads. There doesn't need to be a format for it to be useful, as you seem to insinuate exclusively for the screenshot thread.

The pictures for the builds show a common pathway for water-cooling or wiring. Using pictures can help someone get a loop looking better than what they would have thought of themselves. Posting a screenshot of a game by itself doesn't help our community as much. It's why we don't have a Youtube rating thread. It's unnecessary and should be left to the status updates. 

 

If the screenshots, which don't show much in themselves, have info or the mods used, they would serve a purpose when others want to learn how a mod affects their experience.

Except the purpose is for people to show off their rig, not to provide a technical walkthrough or demonstration on how to configure watercooling setups.
