Possible way to ensure posts always show properly for night-theme users?

Delicieuxz

What if there was a 'night-theme compatibility' check-box in the post tools-bar that would be checked by default, and, when checked, would always automatically set all text colours in the submitted post to the forum default? Maybe that would solve the matter of people needing to ask for posts to be re-formatted to make them properly visible for night-theme users.

The default text color works just fine, it's only when people manually change the colors or copy-paste from Reddit that problems occur!

It already exists, it's called the "remove format" button in the top right corner.

Perhaps add a button to the post editor to switch between website themes for the editor, that way you can see what it looks like on all of the themes.

When posts are copy-and-pasted is where the check-box would make sure everything displays properly.

Having that doesn't ensure that all posts are visible for night-theme users by default, and hasn't prevented requests for night-theme post adjustments.

Could, but resetting colour-formatting by default would get the job done without any need for checking, or thinking to check.

What you're suggesting would more than likely entail stripping all outside formatting when you create a thread. Which can be a royal pain to deal with in some instances, and can already be done manually by just clicking that button.

Yeah, because not everyone uses/knows how to use that button. Same thing applies if there is  a 'check box' for default colors... might as well apply a color default

The original formatting would be preserved in the OP edit box, but the post would display without specifically colour-formatting if the check-box was checked. If a person wants to keep colour-formatting, they could just un-check the box - which I think would be a less common action than formatting text to make it properly visible for everyone.

and can already be done manually by just clicking that button.

Well, it can be done by highlighting text and clicking that button, which is still more effort than doing nothing. And, it doesn't happen all the time, leading to people commonly making posts asking for post-reformatting for the sake of night-theme users.

If people didn't know how to un-check a check-box to disable default colour-formatting, then all posts of theirs would, by default, display without any colour-formatting, and there would be no problem - the check-box would have perfectly served its intended purpose, and there would be fewer problems in the forums.

To verify posts format correctly. But no one is going to do it. I wouldn't. I don't have to cater to night theme users.

I agree. It's your choice to use night theme, not mine. The only reason I've ever used it is on an AMOLED phone because it looks nice there, then I have to change it back to use it anywhere else.

It sounds like both of you could use an automatic default-colour-formatting feature (or night-theme users could use one for your posts).

I remember a topic about this before and Mortis pretty much said that they can't only remove color formats and removing all formatting is bad. A lot of links to websites support auto-embedding which relies upon formatting.

The easy fix would be override the text color in the css with !important... That would remove all user formatted colors in the post though.

Text reminder would do as much good as the remove formatting reminder we already have.
