So I have a friend who's PS4 broke and got an xbox one. I am just curious if there is anything I could do with the PS4 (or possibly repair it), he never said what was broken though.

Ask him what's broken, it could be the corner gets a minor scratch and claims to be broken

Take the drive out. Heatsinks are good to have on-hand. Etc.

Yea but I wasn't sure if there was anything I could do with it. Like maybe install windows/linux and make it into some type of thing, or maybe a Hackintosh

Yeah you can install linux on them. I don't know if they patched it but you could before
