Processor choosement

Hello guys,

Just a few questions

I'm planning to build my first PC, but i have some trouble with choosing a CPU.

I have two options: 7700K w/ Maximus IX Hero or 6800K w/ X99 Strix.

It's for schoolwork, video-editing and gaming.

 

This is the parts list:

   Intel Core i7 7700K / Intel Core i7 6800K

   ASUS ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO / ASUS ROG X99 STRIX

ASUS ROG STRIX RX480 O8G

G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3000C16D-16GTZR

   NZXT KRAKEN X62 / Cryorig R1 Universal

   Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX TG / be quiet! Dark base Pro 900

Corsair RM750x

Western Digital Blue SSD

Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX

 

So the question is:

What CPU / Chipset do you recommend, What cooler do you recommend and What case do you recommend?

For video editing: 6800K

For gaming: 7700K*

For school work: Whatever

*The 6800K will give you better frametimes, while the 7700K will give you better framerates.

Ryzen is good too, but i prefer intel because Ryzen 1700X is a lot more expensive and the 1700, Hmmm

If you prioritize gaming, get the 7700K

If you prioritize video editing, consider Ryzen

It is more like 7700k vs 1700, the 6800k is a bad deal for your money right now, if you do want a high core count from Intel better wait until august and buy a skylake-x

 

I agree that 1600x shouldn't be out of consideration

you should be with a good overclock and a cooler.

not for gaming if you have a high refresh monitor.

 

other than that, it's way better.

 

remember to use high speed RAM though, as it can improve game performance to over 7700K levels.

Only in multithreaded games... (Like Crysis 3) However, X99 beats both Ryzen and the 7700K in those games...
