980Ti or 1070

They're basically the same price where I'm looking to buy it,

 

Which one do I get?

 

I know that the 1070 has an additional 2GB's of VRAM.. Any other pros/cons to each though?

 

Should probably add that I'm currently stuck with an overheating 970.. So I'm replacing it soon as I have some money

980ti vs 1070

 

1070 scores higher in almost every aspect except losing slightly in gaming.

Id go with the 1070 because it's a beast, it has great performance per watt and relatively quiet compared to the 980ti

Yeah GTX 1070 is newer but 980 ti performs 5% better. But GTX 1070 is a lot cheaper so I'll go with GTX 1070 for more VRAM and also a bit longer driver support. But still 980 ti performs a bit better but not worth paying extra money for that.

Would take the newer over the old. I'd suspect the drivers and such would be supported well into your life expectancy of your card! Performance may be similar but would still take the newer of the two!

980 ti performs a bit better in some areas thats for sure but I already mentioned that it is not worth spending so much extra money for just a small performance increase in some segments. GTX 1070 has a bit longer driver support and also more VRAM,

It's really not better at all, it's behind.

1070:

- Lower power consumption

- Longer driver support (assuming Nvidia won't change their policy towards older cards, and they have no reason to atm)

- More VRAM

- Better performance out-of-the-box

980Ti:

- More computing power (aka more CUDA cores)

- Better performance once both cards are overclocked

 

Overall both cards perform similarly, one is faster in one kind of tasks and the other is faster in another kind of workloads.

If the same price, get the 1070, you've got no guaranteed OC with the 980Ti and the card itself is older and more power-hungry, albeit it has a beefier GPU chip.

Just looked (I'm buying from eBay used as I can't afford a brand new one at the moment) and the 980Ti's are about £50 cheaper than the 1070's.. Lowest 1070 I could find was £350 with the 980Ti being £300, If this is the case in a few days when I get paid I'll probably just have to go with the 980Ti unless I can find a cheap 1070 deal

Make sure you get a aftermarket 980 Ti. They do run hot. Do not get any reference 980 Tis...

 

But yeah, which cards though? It'll make it seem like a better or worse deal depending on the model...

I remember the 1070 having additional features for VR and h265... double check if that matters to you... 

personally I would do 1070 just in case, lower power consumption...

Very poor analogy. And the 1070 is definitely not the "Fiesta" of Nvidia's current line up. That would be the 1050 or lower. I know what you were trying to say though.  

 

To the OP; Go with the 1070. There isn't a drastic difference between the founder's and aftermarket versions in terms of absolute performance. It's only a 150w chip, so even the founder's can run cool and fast without sounding like a jet. It'll have better future support and the extra Vram is nice to have as well. Games have been getting much more Vram hungry lately.
